  • He missed ALL the big jumps
  • ALL of the proper race lines
  • And came in almost 1 1/2 slower than the eventual winning time on a much smoother track.

We could do without the the disdain certain riders felt towards Leogang's track. Moaning about something being too easy then failing to deliver is juvenile to say the least. So yeah, you make a valid point. Now let me get on to where I contradict myself.

I also believe in giving credit where its due. If you gonna talk ****. Make sure you can back it up right? Riding the course on a hardtail after talking some **** sounds like delivering to me. I mean who here would honestly expect him to race (and/or win) on a hardtail?

He may have opted for the french lines and cased a couple tables for most of the track but he did clear 2 gaps if I'm not mistaken. One of which was surprisingly creative. And some of those drops he took just felt painful.

He might be a knob. But at least he backed it up with that run and if I'm being honest here I think he did it pretty well considering.

Will such antics discourage people from viewing? I don't think so.

I don't watch moto GP at all but I can tell you now that should I hear about some guy's intention to race with his scooter. It will be the first race I would make a point of watching.

Have the Syndicate stopped their highlights program after each race weekend? I can only find episode 1 from Lourdes, no Fort William? Not enough comedic moments without Rat boy and Peaty???

No. They are doing a new format where they don't focus their edits on only the races, but on the wider Syndicate activities. That is why there are bigger breaks between edits.

He didn't prove anything.  I'm pretty sure the top guys could ride Schladming on their hardtails.  They're pro bike racers after all.  But all that matters is the clock on Sunday.  It's a World Cup series.  Diversity in tracks makes for the true all round champion at the end.

Yes when it comes to this level of sponsorship , coverage , organization ect. ( basically MONEY)

then you need to show up and shred your bike as fat as possible like all the guys in the top 10 did..

Is DH starting to lose that 'chilled, beer swilling, have fun' image I wonder?

I dont think so - they still get up to wild sh!t...but when it is time to race they are being professional about it...and rightly so.

as for this whole leogang track issue...i say meh. Sure you can go down on a hardtail..and kudo's to doing that. Wasn't very fast though. This track is speed and steepness. that stump section saw some pretty wild crashes because of that. Was it a bit anal to take the rocks out...probably...was it anal for greg to champion getting that lip removed from the final jump? absolutely not

What do you want it to be, a professional sport where athletes get paid a decent salary or a hooligan congregation? I can guarantee you that the latter will die out faster than one can say 'wage gap'.

As much as we like to think of downhill as the rebel of the sporting world, when money is involved in competition they'll all bow to the man.

Surfing went through a shake up in the early 90's. The guys were basically told that if they wanted to be paid like athletes they needed  to behave as such.

Let me put it this way: When I bodyboarded competitively at school (mid to late 90's) my dad hated that I hung out with surfer "washouts" and rightly so.  Guys who won regional champs were getting high off their heads in the parking above Koeelbaai before paddling out.

If my kids now told me they want to pursue a career in surfing (assuming they are any good) I'd be pumped.

Same reason I'd rather hang out with Gwin, Gregg or even Gee than Ratboy and his pikey mates.  I'm not saying their bad people.  In fact I reckon their great human beings, but the sport needs to mature to a point of professionalism.

I do however differ wildly from your opinion on WynTV.  It's my favorite part of the WC weekends, and seeing as it's not officially affiliated I reckon it's brilliant.

I think the best thing that DH needs is to tell the UCI to piss off. The sport is mature enough to regulate itself. Look at how successful the EWS is outside of the grip of the UCI.

I don't 'want' anything, it was just an observation of how it used to be perceived, that they were more chilled but ja ...  :whistling:

Thats a fantastic way to see it good on the man

Disagree - If I am not mistaken, Trumpore has pissed people off before with a very *** attitude when challenged on his failure to place a pic of one of the stage winners on an EWS event. The guy was a privateer and top 30 finisher and he beat a host of top names on the stage but didn't get a mention or a pic. Trumpore reacted badly when challenged so don't take him too seriously  when he rants on about this kind of thing.

MTB and DH has always been borderline respectable but you guys want to make it even more square? PC police anyone?
