If you’re gonna base your training regime on any number of variables that have been part of the Tour for 40 years, rather than on your personal goals, this race is not for you.

In my humble opinion…

I think if that approach is taken to most of life it would be very dim.

Given all the comment on this event. Is it still worth training harder to try and achieve a certain time?

If one isn't training to win / line honors / the Nolan Hoffman's of the world, is it best to just go into the event with ones general (cycling) fitness? By putting more training hours in, training to say go 20 min faster on the enter course are you not setting yourself up for further disappointment should the event have last minute change. If the course gets shortened you will most likely make you target time anyway (bit of a hollow victory).

There are certain cyclist out there that have a goal of say going sub 3h30 or sub 3 and end up making quite few sacrifices to make the training time for that. Is it still worth it?

Now is the time to start think about this if you are one of those who have goals on time for this event, as training probably has already stated or will be starting shortly.

So one should train less as there is a chance of accidents and punctures as well?

I think every cyclists goal is to arrive in March looking like a township dog. (With shaved legs of course!)

with only having met Icycling once or twice before, but know he's record he holds at Cycle Tour, i kinda feel where he's coming from...

not that i have anything close to what he's achieve at the Cycle Tour alone!

i however didn't enter, it didn't quite like the way the last one ended, and from what i've heard the situation in the areas where the strikes and riots took are place, are getting worse, ok the Cycle Tour is still some time away... anyway a R500 less from me this year, but they already got my last years R500, i'm out!

Book air tickets & car hire with dormant Voyager Miles, Tick.

Alert neglected Cape Town mates that I am staging a come-back, Tick.

What's the story with bike transport nowadaze? Before you just had to drop off at airport a few days before.

I am more excited about the UCI XCO than anything else if truth be told, I have never taken the Tour that seriously, Its a social thing for me, and its awesome to be part of.  More than once I have even partied the whole night before, back in the day.

We used to drop off a day before we left(the Monday or Tuesday before) at a designated spot outside the terminal but the last 2 years they haven't had that option so we just took the box in with us and they basically checked it in at the same spot as we check in. A dude came and fetched the bikes. But it's a bit of a stuff up so maybe they will go back to the old procedure, maybe not.

How many of you okes would be keen on a hub ride get together before the UCI event and possibly the argust itself?

EDIT: how many out of towners will bring their mountain bikes?

Now this is a grand idea.

We can do Hoogekraal, R60.00 buys you access to trails on three farms. BARGAIN !!

Undecided which bike I will bring, so many trails to check out there but I will get off just going for a ride up to llandudno every morning. But it might be my mtb just to keep options open.

Can't be bothered about slicks though, or the finishing time. I think my best time ever was 3:30 on an mtb, that was after coming straight back from a trance party at a crayfish factory. Worst was 7+ hours on that really windy day back in 2009.

So saying there is only one trail that should be done in the Stellies area, which would it be? for me it might be on the Thursday or Friday before. Jonkershoek?

I used to have a flat in the High Cape so know the northern Table Mountain slope trails well, but never done the newer ones further afield, Stellies side. Also used to paraglide the Merenadal area so  kinda know those hills as well.

Jonkers is the obvious choice in Stellies area.

The trails in and around Durbanville is expanding at a rapid rate, with new sections being added on an almost monthly scale now.

Obviously Hoogekraal is one of my favorites, with a varied terrain on offer.
