I don't even feel the Lombard's climb, in contrast to the 21m elevation of "the gorge" on Hooggekraal - love the down, HATE the up.

Indeed. What is the gradient on that beast? It kills me, every time. When I take the turn at the top, I feel like I burnt matches just to get there. And this is after the ride has barely started.

Not complaining though, as it is a good fitness barometer for me. But do this after sessioning the skills park for say half an hour...

I just checked my strava from my last ride there and it says it peaks at 20%. I can't remember seeing that on the ol GPS tho. but High teens for sure.

for those wanting a steep climb with some rocky technical bits thrown in try this - park at Virgin Active Greenpoint, go straight up Glengariff Road and up Pat's Track to the top of Signal Hill. 3.5km straightfarkingup all the way.

With a moer of a lot of rocky "step-ups" included. Way beyond my current technical ability's, I "hike a bike" more than than I ride a bike there.

That said, it is on the menu for this coming Saturday morning.

True dat. The Mast would be one helluva hill repeat, that's for sure.

That mast climb has literally had me seeing stars morphing into black spots once. I had to dismount before I fell off while ascending. I made it about 3/4 of the way up without stopping.

Hidden gem and personal favourite climb on the Tygerberg trail network is at Conties, the Black Rhino climb all the way up to the mast.

Strava segment has it at 291m elevation gain at an average of 13% gradient.

It goes along the fence between Conties and Kliprug. You don't have to go all the way up you can turn left and drop down into happy hops, cheeky corners, dh main line, revised dh line, supertubes or carry on up the concrete strip all the way to the top.

Lots of options and pretty technical mainly because it's so steep and you go so slow that keeping your line is challenging on the rocky bits.

Pat's Right, yeah. Coming down that trail is farking lovely!!!

There are 2 Pat's Track sections. Pat's left which goes from the Kramat then 180deg at a fork and ends up midway up the tar road from CB to the Nek, which has those log steps and is quite undulating but still a beeeeyatch to climb. Then there's Pat's Right, which is straight down all the way from the Kramat to Glengariff. Haven't climbed that one, yet. Have descended both numerous times, and Pat's Right is my fave on teh mountain.

Ja, I've only done the right hand section starting at top of Glengariff rd, up to the Kramat split, and then over the logs / roots down to Bantry Bay.  So I do it in the other direction you do.
