Go Alan!

and now for the explosion of e-bikes onto the trails and in SA Events. Soon we will be rebranding to ebikehub

Pfffft. We're going to need to start pushbikehub for that small group of ageing luddites still pedalling under their own power that no one wants on the mountain  :P

Engine assisted or not... Coming in ahead of greats like kulhavy and absalon who have both only just retired is amazing effort

Kulhavy's avg heart rate was 175......

Pedalbikehub if you please. A pushbike is what pedestrians do when their ebike runs out of battery...

Go Alan!

I'm firmly in the "why" camp.

Super cool that he is a world champ but I don't understand elite ebike racing. Everybody gets to do 25kph minimum then race all the other bits? Seems all a bit silly.

I have to agree with you, I am still trying to make sense of what the idea is with this race, how ever it was a packed field with some big names so it is still a great result for Alan but honestly,  i would have felt a lot better if it was a over weight middle aged man wearing the rainbow stripes in the Ebike class.

Maybe there is some merit in this class of racing for retired pro's .... something like the senior tour in the golfing world.

It was a field packed with famous names but not really big names. None of the top 10 ebikers feature in the top 40 of the UCI XCO rankings (Alan is 12th).

Alan was a bit of a hustler :-)

Think everyone's quick to jump on the band wagon here.

From what I can see, the course was far more hectic than any of the xc courses. Basically, you would struggle to ride it on a regular bike.

Alan commented that his avg. power was similar to what he does in a regular xc race.

Geez, trying to be as objective as possible in my thinking but I'm struggling with ebike XCO at world champs. Agree with @Face Plant's comment about old chaps racing them, that could be fun. But elite's.... its got big brand marketing pressure written all over it
