Does this race have any impact on his preparation for the XCO?

Why do humans race anything? If it can move, it can be raced. Why do ebikes need special justification?

I'm all for racing anything but the pedalac option they've gone for just doesn't make sense to me. Allowing ebikes then limiting them to speeds and power that is well below current battery and motor technology doesn't exactly drive hordes of engineers to the drawing board to improve tech. All they have to work with is weight really.

Each to their own I suppose and ultimately it's great for Spesh, Alan and SA in terms of exposure.

its the future, that's why.

some of us will still race vintage bikes

I don't think it is the future. It's at best a parallel to current bicycles.

We have ebikes, motorbikes, cars and aeroplanes but we still watch people run races around tracks on foot. Same will happen with ebikes. They will grow but they will never replace human powered racing.

Throw in some max allowable dosages of EPO, HGH etc and there, will be a level playing field. ;-)

once we all have an e-bike the field will be level again.

Dude beat Absalon, Miguel Martinez and Jaroslav......it could have been in a game of marbles and would still have deserved a rainbow jersey.

Plus its not AH's first rainbow jersey.....

Alan's starts for those who think this was a easy race

Ave HR 181

Max HR 191

You welcome

Exactly! Would be interesting to see what skill set makes ebike world champs different. I am assuming there is more speed up hill, therefore skill and line choice up hill will be more important than pure watts.

There is also the battery use dynamic as well.

An aside...is there a road tandem UCI world championship class?

No, road tandem not a recognised UCI category. That is also why there is no longer tandem category for national and provincial champs here. As of about 2 years back there was no more tandem category here in SA. The response I got from CSA was the above when I queried it.

Baffling as ever the workings of the UCI...

From their own website "...It develops and oversees cycling in all its forms, for all people as a competitive sport, as a healthy recreational activity, as a means of transport, and also just for fun."

In all its forms...e-bikes in, tandem (merely as an example) out.

...develops? Or follows?

For one, they don’t have an auto pilot (yet) and you have to have the skill to ride the thing faster
