I don't see them only making the T&C's to cover their liability from injuries or bodily harm but then having to take responsibility for death?? Or if I'm wrong, please educate me. The wind will be chilled in town and the pros and first X groups are going to deal with the wind in the Deep South like any other windy ride that's been dished out to anyone training here for like the whole of Feb. There's no doubt that it's dangerous in wind like that (I'd actually argue that it's more dangerous in the rain), but I'm not sure that I agree with cancelling it completely. Perhaps letting the top x (x to be determined by somebody smart) groups ride, based on the assumption that your seeding could be an indication of your ability on the bike. It would suck for people who can ride well but are seeded badly, but still better than cancelling the event entirely. Or maybe just let whoever wants to ride, ride, we're all adults who agreed to the T&C's. Most noobs will be happier to stay in bed anyway. Besides, you're being drama queens. It's not going to be as windy as that and I seriously doubt it'll be canceled on account of the wind. Refer to post #847 on this thread. The wind forecast has dropped since that post, and will still drop a little more IMO. Whooplaaa!The major difference between 2009 and 2017 was the introduction of a new events act, which puts the calling off of the event in the hands of the JOC and the various emergency/safety institutions involved behind the scenes. There are pre-defined conditions which dictate how and when events become dangerous to participants, and once those thresholds have been reached, the decision is removed from the organiser, and made by the JOC (which makes the organiser do the announcement ). Had this set of regulations been in place in 2009 or 2010, we would not have ridden either, by all accounts. But, hey, conspiracy theories are more fun, right? I change my mind every 2 minutes on if I should ride or not - I'm going to at least go to the start and ride the first bit from town, if its howling in Fishhoek I'm turning back, would rather head out to Franshoek. That is the sane voice speaking before race adrenaline kicks in ... hopefully conditions or sanity prevail I've done most of the CPT races/rides this season and enjoyed them, so this wasn't my 'only event'. Tough for the out of town guys, but that's why we arranged a 5am ride tomorrow morning for the guys flying in today ... tomorrows conditions look picture perfect . If its definitely too hectic we'll probably drive out to Stellenbosch or Franschhoek on Sunday, flights and accommodation justified imho.
