Horrible news. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

Cycling in the dark? Not that she should not have been but it all adds to the risks of cycling on the roads in a city, especially in this country.

Always going to be someone victim blaming...

A fkcing taxi. Who would have guessed.

Taxis have absolutely zero compassion, or respect for other rules of the road. Driving to work they often overtake straight into oncoming traffic, not giving a single ****. I've made it my own personal mission to block them and cut them off when they try do that. Often you get hooted at and shouted at.

I'm so sorry buddy, so sorry I'm not allowing you to drive like an absolute asshat and for not allowing you to break the law.

So over it.

Hope she has a full and speedy recovery.

As far as the accident goes anything could have happened let's not jump to conclusions because of taxis in general.

For our K2C training we had to ride on the road to get the distance in and going out to stellenbosch/Franschhoek side 99.9% of the vehicles on the road give you enough space but Durbanville where loads of people cycle they try and see how close to you they can pass and some of them with the bikes hanging on their cars.

I was even hit on my elbow with a mirror from a fellow cyclist car that's how close they pass and where possible we were inside the yellow line or on gravel.

Surprise surprise... taxi was at fault. Don’t think it’s much of a jump when a taxi is involved, not even a hop, it’s always in the wrong.

Pieterse said Burger, 37, was on a training ride early this morning when a minibus taxi drove through a red traffic light and hit her side-on.

“She suffered two punctured lungs, slight bleeding on the brain, a broken collarbone and all her ribs are broken on her left side,” Pieterse told In the Bunch today.
