Reverb vs. Lyne / Rapide

Ive got the lyne post (125mm external) and i have to say while yes, its good value for money, it does have a few minor "issues". Firstly i wouldve liked the rebound speed to be adjustable, or just set faster, its definitely quite a bit too slow. You cant adjust air pressure. It does develop some play (rotational and very slight back and forth / side to side, zero up and down though). The rotational play is noticeable when riding i wont lie. I think they shouldve used a wider stanchion as the lyne droppers have much thinner ones than the reverb.

Pros for the lyne dropper is price, almost no maintenance, cable actuation (hydro is silly for a dropper). Lastly i converted a front shifter to a dropper lever as the lyne lever feels pretty cheap. The conversion is tricky though as both the shifter and the dropper need the end of the cable that has the "end part", and you also need to find a way to make the shifter not shift anymore. But its so worth it, it works perfectly.

Oh and one more thing, the Lyne customer service is top notch. Really great to deal with. I phoned the guy who i assume runs it with a bunch of questions before i got it, and he doesnt spin any bs, he did tell me about the slight play that develops etc. The first post i got also had an issue (couldve been my fault not sure) but they sent another one asap without second delivery fee.

If you take the seat mast off, you'll see there's a valve to top up air, it's quite a hefty pressure to get the post working as it should, otherwise call up Lyne they'll guide you through the process

Yebo, under the seatpost clamp...add air...280PSI and fast fast. 2 Years now I have only had to topup the air in my post about 3 times. Amazing post and did the DIY service myself (was too late so there's obvious stanchion wear due to my negligence, but no sign of any functional deterioration at all). Really great post IMO.

I wouldn't buy a Reverb if I was buying new, I'd go with a Lyne (got 2 of them and they are awesome). But, Reverbs are awesome when they work - so if it was me I'd use the Reverb till it needs a service then sell it and get a Lyne.

Just sold my Lyne last night as I didnt really use the drop function much (going back to standard post) but i found it a really good piece of kit for the price.

That must be one of the worst pieces of advice ever dished out on the Hub. The man lives in Cape Town. We have mountains down here and some steep descents.  Shame on you :-)

In the north we put the seat between our legs and stop ourselves with our manliness on descents .I have 3 children to prove that i was not hurt permanently .Bibs ,gloves ,bum cream,dropper seat posts,sunblock,and suspension is all for riders in the western cape when they ride amongst the pretty flowers and the wineries

Reverb is costly piece of kit. Not talking about initial price.

I bought mine before the boom of affordable options and its good piece of kit, but I would buy a different one now.

 Same here. It's odd, it seems like for years there were only a few options: reverb, Lev, specialized command post, and a handful of shite offerings from crankbrothers. Then it just exploded and everybody started making affordable (and reliable) droppers. Did a patent expire? Genuine question.

If you like speedy ball busting return speed... get a Spaz Command Post. I love mine. No play and very reliable with some return speed tunability. The slow return speed and play on the Lyne posts is the only thing I have against them. For the money there is no contest though. Reverbs and Spaz posts are way more expensive...

@Jacoo

I would love to know how you made a second cable end

Available from any good bolt store, is a cable stop clamp. Otherwise, the LYNE lever (which I have) has one in the bag, and it works beautifully. Don't know why Jacoo feels the under-bar lever feels cheap, not in my experience. It's a well put together piece of kit, and is cheap as well.
