The bike of the man that is going to be world champ in a few hours :-)

hope you enjoyed that... must say, it looked a lot nicer than yesterday, but still a bit bracing compared to our balmy-ness here

thinking about it, why not just have the euro and worlds cyclocross as a combined event... no one outside europe will get a look-in it seems

Beer, crazy Belgians, large TVs, tons of porncross bikes, shimano's event truck and crazy fast CX racing. It was awesome!

I watched the start then walked the route checking obstacles then watched the last few laps and finish in a nice warm suite.

All in all a perfect day I'd say!

The women's race yesterday was proper slimy and slow. Men's was dry and fast. Two quite different races. One hour full gas.

Is there any organised Cyclocross racing happening in Sourh Africa at the moment.

I am thinking specifically Gauteng region?

Please, leave CSA out of Cyclocross and Grand Fondos (Gravel bike races), they’re pathetic... Edited by nathrix ® ©™

This was so much better to watch than F1. Thanks for the heads up guys.

Just a question - those two steps.

Some of the men bunny jumped them while others dismount.

I could not decide which was faster, as both seemed equal in terms of speed. Surely the bunny hop takes so much more effort ?

Awesome racing and power by MvdP, those first 5 laps were at an insane pace!!  Man of the moment and in form deserved the win!!

Felt for Toon having chased hard only then to go down on the last lap and miss out on silver!!

Fantastic racing !!

anything is better than that!

bunny hopping might not be much quicker, but dismounting, skipping and remounting definitely takes more energy

I've always thought cyclocross was a bit stupid, but I REALLY enjoyed watching yesterday. That was great racing.

Cyclocross is probably one type of racing that actually makes sense.

To race one requires huge amounts of strength, fitness, skill, tactical nous and massive mental fortitude to keep pushing.

Some Top racers use Alu frames and cheaper components due to the fact that it takes place in any weather, so having a rad bike doesn't mean having an expensive bike.

The racing can be done anywhere. A park, a school, sports grounds etc... the track is 1-1.4km long which makes it spectator friendly, sponsors names get seen, it's easier to cover, easier to organise, cheaper to run etc......

I have no idea why South Africans are obsessed with further. It certainly doesn't always equate to harder

1-1.4k long? Thought it was a bit longer 2.5 - 5 or something like that ...

Maybe the UCI races, but most CX racing I did in the UK and NZ were short. Up to 1.5km.

Either way, if the loops are slightly longer these days it doesn't really change the setup. It just means an extra bit of tape and perhaps some more stairs or clover loop somewhere.

One thing I couldn't see was that if the national teams were racing as a team. In the men's it was a bit more obvious with one main man: with Haas Daas kinda blocking when Mat went but with the ladies is seemed a bit of a fee for all, with Denise stringing out the leading pack earlier and not doing anyone any favours, and no one really watching / tagging / marking the only dangerous Belgian upfront who got away unhindered. Or did I miss something?

Too bad Lucinda had such bad luck & foutjies - was it 3x she went down? but came back each time. She was player of the match imho.
