Its a bit sad reading this thread after reading about the Suikerbossie incident. Just because Taxis and pedestrians dont obey the law doesnt mean we should do the same.

agreed , road cyclist must remember that at the end of the day when you get hit with a car no matter who was right or wrong the dude on the bike is coming off second best.

Its typical road cycling mentality to use that logic of if they do it so can i , well then if you break the rules of the road and are being a douche , you not gonna have a good time

Agree, funny how quickly people want to justify their actions by saying

"so have never done anyting wrong"

Why not just try and be a better person, if you did text and drive then rather than justify your actions, go "sorry, should not be doing / have done that " Then Really try!

Some of these posts sound like Donald trump type responses.

Reporter “president trump, why did you lie to the country?”

Trump - “why aren’t you going after Hillary, she lied as well”.

**** sakes

you ever jumped a robot? text and drive? drink and drive? ever missed a deadline? forgot to pray before you eat......

This is a crap attitude to have. Dont justify your acotins because others have done it or prevent someone from making cycling safer because he might have skipped a light and then thought "that was a stupid thing to do"

The first replies to this perfectly describe the problem with many cyclists today, the mentality of:

  • "Other road users don't obey the rules so it's ok for us not to", and
  • "It's everyone else's fault not ours"

The fact that we are 100x more vulnerable to the effects of any accident should dictate that we do everything possible to keep ourselves safe, follow the rules, watch out for what's going on around us and anticipate what might endanger us.

Absolutely spot on.

Nice first post

Do you ever confront the taxis and pedestrians that act irrational?

This is a cycling forum, which is why he is confronting the cyclists.

Taxi's and pedestrians are irrelevant to this forum.

Im not sure how other riders feel about absolute idiots on their bikes. Daily (worse over weekends) on the popular Botha Rd in Centurion i see dozens of riders skipping stop streets, red lights and riding 3,4 abreast with not a care in the world, its ridiculous-i wonder if clubs couldnt police reckless riding and revoke or suspend their racing licenses?

I like your name...my old home town.

Our club tried to take action with the traffic department about a specific training group. The traffic department simply told them that they cannot act unless they catch them in the act and they didn't have the resources to follow them around.

Hmmm, it is one of my occasional routes.  (Cycling alone, on my MTB keeping to the left as per usual.)

The other day a bunch of faster guys passed me, everyone still keeping in the (fairly wide) yellow line and a d/c driver got hugely upset for some reason.

(I actually try not to cycle / run on especially the N1 'side' of Botha, and the Fountains side only by exception as a fellow runner got killed in an accident on that stretch.)

Not taking anything away from the scenario as presented, just adding to the conversation :)

Boom!!! 14 posts in and serving it up to the old guard...

i have never understood why having the logic and brains to form an opinion is linked to a large post count.

Imho post counts is more about having the time to visit the hub and type something.

Why do guys think just because you post lots that means you know what you talking about.

i would have thought that had to do with time in the saddle and not time on a website.

Riding hours is what gives experience of cycling.

just my 2 cents.

Exposure to a multitude of similar topics quantified by posts on the hub => valuable experience
