And not much has changed apart from pricing, which is why DCR only does a review every 2 years.

At least it will give you the list of all apps available, of what each can do.... which then you can DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH to further investigate the ones you have an interest in.

Nah, id rather ask all the south african people that already use these...

Why do work if other have done it already

I use Trainerroad for structured training and Swift($15 month)for social riding. On TR there are many plans to choose from to suite all types of riding. I paid $99 upfront for the year and the beauty about TR is that you will never be subjected to any price increases as long as you are a member. There was an increase recently, $10 to $15 month and $99 to $129 per year.

Road Grand Tours is another online simulator currently in beta testing so currently membership is free. Graphics are better than Swift.

I use RGT and the issue I have is that there's no real riders on.  Unfair as it's beta but tired of seeing only computer avatars.  I did think more cyclists would use it as it's free for now?

Rouvey for many years (virtual trainer before it changed to rouvey). Recently tried Zwift and have done 2 rides in the free version.

Can’t recall the cost for rouvey.

One nice feature of rouvey is you can upload your own actual riding routes and ride them again indoors.

TrainerRoad with Genius Smart trainer. But starting to lose interest and looking at trying Sufferfest. Seems like you just get more bang for your buck.

And if Dan Lloyd from GCN and Cervelo Test Team fame went with Sufferfest, they must be good, right?

Not on a smart trainer - I run TR with an old TACX Flow trainer on virtual power, Speed, Cadence and HR connected with ANT+ connection.

This is the poor mans solution to power training without having to lay out 1000's on a smart trainer, unless you into the whole online racing thingy.

As to the boredom factor, i run the free version of Spotify, have built up over 4 hours of good training music - Use headphones while training, keeps me in the zone without distractions.

The TR guys have really upped the anti with their latest improvements on calendar features and setting out the training plans. I have just set out my entire year training plan for TB - Base - Build & specialty - Now the challenge is to see if i can stick to it and get this TB monkey off my shoulder.

I have 3 invites for a free month trial on Trainer Road if anyone's interested - 1st 3 email addys i get can have them. I'm not sure how the signup works, but maybe email the TR guys and check the T&C's of the free month.

testing the Road Grant Tours (free currently) waters. Still very early days, but i'm interested.

Zwift's horrible graphics puts me off. btw: who here flinches when other virtual riders ride near your wheels, or through it?  ^_^

RGT hints at me likely preferring the augmented reality (AR) stuff, so i'll give Rouvy a spin or few.

I think the animators for both Rouvy's AR stuff and Road Grand Tours needs to watch some videos of riders climbing out of the saddle...

Currently using Zwift and Rouvy, depending on how I feel.

Both TrainerRoad and Sufferfest look quite interesting too, but I don't feel like paying for yet another service - as is I have been using Zwift more than Rouvy recently.

Agreed wrt to Road Grant Tours: the sporadic shifts in POV during cornering is annoying/nauseating. Good thing i can close my eyes, or look away for a few seconds  ^_^
