Dear mountain bikers.. from trail runners

I don't have trail runners out here...just pedestrians mincing along...They also have headphones though or their phones playing some tunes but it's just as easy to stay behind them for a minute or two until you have been seen...I once went past someone on the right fully expecting them to move a little bit to the left as I passed but instead they went right as well...right into me...slow speed so no issues but just like a guinea fowl there is no telling what people do when you are almost on top of them and they suddenly see you

Very true.

Once had 3 walkers in front of me. When I called out to them the one on the left moved to the right , the one of the right went left and the one in the middle froze.

Then you haven't stopped and given the pooches tummy rubs.... they beam smiles straight into your soul!

Given the (now healed) puncture wounds in my leg, you can imagine my apprehension.

I did have this good looking lady give me some lovin' the other day.

As long as you slow down, then cool.

Groups are always difficult. I ran through a group of Mountain bikers clogging up the pavement and the shoulder at the entrance to the Glen the other day. Not a single one made an effort to move.

As I both run and ride regularly, I am always intrigued how, when alone, people respect other users and generally behave cordially, but when in a group, all bets are off. No matter where or which respective sport, groups tend to cause issue.

I'm not saying groups are bad, merely saying that when on the Greenbelts and shared trails, take that into account when you react to the situation.

I dunno. The only time I ever really get annoyed on trails (regardless of what I'm doing) is when idiots are riding the wrong way up or down a one way trail and treat me like I'm in the wrong.

Dogs, old people, groups etc all generally smile and wave pleasantly if you slow down and behave in a respectful manner.

Agreed. Please feel free to substitute "cyclist" for walker and runner wherever it may appear.

Speed, inattentiveness and rudeness are the primary sources of trail conflict among user groups. If you need to pass, slow down, ring a bell or verbally announce yourself, and wait until the other trail user is out of the path. Use extra caution around horses, which are unpredictable. Be extra aware when riding trails with poor sight lines and blind corners, and make sure you can hear what's going on around you.

rule #1 applies here perfectly.

"don't be a ****, be lekker"

I had a post removed the other day for using the word "d1ck". So if who ever reported my post sees this, it's gone :D . Maybe I should have used more numbers.

My late Scottie dog used to deal with trail runners in his own way. In his youth he used to go for their day glo takkies as they ran past. I still remember one guy leaping a meter in the air as this black toothy dog went for his Saucony's.

If they see you use Richard's nickname in this post, it'll get removed as well, right? So I've quoted it for safekeeping.

You obviously can't see any issue with this...

Mutual. Respect.

It aint hard.

What you been smoking... it's pretty much the hardest thing humanly possible.

To put it in cycling terms, it's a lot like double-Everesting Groenlandberg on a Unicycle

Saw a cyclist come barrelling down the green belt in constantia just outside the silver hurst estate. **** WAS yelling at two runners to get out of way while the slob passed them within mm. Not an endearing fellow but he carried out his actions with a huge grin indicating the entitlement is strong with him.

Please... This is not acceptable for interval training at 6 in the evening when the green belt is full of different user groups

Be lekker

I have also seen people riding way too fast down that section of trail in the past. Its always a risky high traffic area unless you're on it after 7 in summer.

There are just too many inconsiderate w@nkers, and "I" Specialists.

Cyclists, runners and Dog walkers all guilty AF.

I ride, run and walk the dogs in Delta park regularly.

MTB's on the dedicated walking path 2m to the right of the dedicated cycling path and now they between dogs and runners and it is chaos.

Yesterday dumbass trail runner running down the new berm line with earphones in, idiot when there is a wide runable line not dedicated to cyclists

Dog walkers- if the dog is off leash you better have it under control by verbal command, as well yesterday guy walking 2 dogs over the jumps in bot gardens when there is a path 3m away from cyclists to walk on. Dog nearly got run over when it decided to stop on the path fairly blind sighted section among trees.

Basically no one gives a **** about others. Have some consideration and just don't be a ****. Put the shoe on the other foot and see how k@k your actions can be.

It takes so little effort to walk your dogs off the main paths where there are less people.

Stick to the dedicated lanes when they are there and slow down when on sections that have to be shared by all. Not rocket science

Common sense, common logic and common courtesy- I strongly believe they forgot to teach the definition of common in schools the last 80 years

Anyone with earphones in exercises in public deserves a pk (unless on a wattbike or treadmill in gym where they influence no one)

You obviously have no sense of humour.

Please leave my lack of a sense of humor out of this... if you wish to discuss it, start a thread or bomb me a pm.

I was merely pointing out the irony of your post on this thread. Use it, don't use it.
