Is TM not a nature reserve? How is it dogs are allowed there in the first place then?

SANParks made concessions re the use of Table Mountain when they took it over from the City of Cape Town. It is recognized as an urban fringe and that the Capies have a historic right of access to it. SANParks then introduced a permit system. If you want to ride a bike, walk a dog or rock climb, you have to pay for and get the right permit. The only ones allowed in without a permit are the walkers (without dogs). (Edit: or the ones who don't give a **** about paying or rules) Personally, I think walkers should be treated the same as everyone.

There's always a justification

like the guys running up the trails at tokai , "who's rules are those i've been riding here my whole life"

Rule 1. Don't be a deuche.

Rule2. When someone else is being a deuche, be better than said someone else.

If we can follow these simple rules, then we can all coexist and have a jol.

But alas...

One question and a serious question.

What is the law/rule with regards to dogs, I'm being told they must be on leash at all times.

I've had a few run ins over this. I do my best, but always i get crapped on like i shouldn't be there

it's a bylaw, and honestly, I'm on the verge of reporting the fools who think they are dog whispers and leave their pooches off the leash: been bitten too many damn times, and it's always the same excuse: I know my dogs, it must be you. this to the guy that always stops to let the dogs walk by as I know some can be excited by the amazing growl of tyres on dirt.

Animal bylaw 2010

6. Prohibition relating to the keeping of dogs

No person shall

(h) permit any dog owned or kept by him or her

(vi) to be in any public street or public place except on a leash and under control unless the dog is in an area designated by the Council as a free running area;

We ride the glen pretty often and the sight of our crew in FF helmets might be a little intimidating. We're pretty aware of dog walkers and always slow right down and inform the walker how many more there is of us.

Well done, I've found a simple stop, greet the tannie, pat the dog and say "have a lovely walk!" disarms the dikbek in about 25secs.

You still get the occasional Saartjie suur or Jannie jammergat, but shame, they must have been living miserable lives even before I spoiled their entire day by riding my bike (or walking my bear) near their hairless dog masquerading as a toothpick.

I share your experiences and pain.

Would be nice if officials are strategically positioned and then actually do something as well.

So far so good for me, everyone who I've greeted on the trails greets back I slow down to a crawl when I see doggo's (I don't stop to pat strange dogs I'm coloured and they'll probably go into attack mode) but no complaints... Ok maybe about that 60 something year old lady hippie walking near Constantia nek with a tank top on and no bra....

But I suppose whatever floats your boat
