Grease_Monkey Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 THIS. The Topeak one is expensive, but flippin fantastic. It's the best pressure gauge I've seen.Yup, that Topeak one is awesome. I habe the Schwalbe one, which works. But what makes the Topeak one lekker is that you can overpump your tyre and then let air out using the guage and get a live readout as you let air out - very handy! With others like mine you measure, remove, let air out, measure again, remove, add/remove air, etc...
ChrisF Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Do you possibly have a pic of the Topeak gauge ? And where to buy it ? PS - I take it one should be careful of getting slime into the meter .... any tips on this ?

Have the valve at about 8/9 O'clock. Let air out for a split second before putting the guage on, that lets out any sealant that was in there. I do the same before I pump my tyres to avoid getting any in my pump head - I have had a pump become useless as a result of sealent before.
BaGearA Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 I got A 2018 bike that mas boost spacing, metic shock, trunion mount for the shock, great gears, great brakes, light frame, good geometry (slightly shorter for its size at the going rate of current manufacturers, still great reach available) Difference between this bike and my 2018 Hightower? It has 650b wheels, personally I think 650b will be equal in numbers with 29ers for a long time to come The 650b is for sale if anyone is keen Personally I'd like to see Enduro and XC or marathon races start to take a sensus on the bikes when you enter online to see the ratio between 650b and 29 at Enduro races and see how many 650b bikes are entering marathon races I think we should be surprised at the ruslt in a good way Apologies if any of this has been said, I haven't read the last few pages
PygaSchmyga Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 I have been chicked enough times on my bike to be able to say this without fear of retaliation. For the less than secure males... all I can say, not everything is about the size of your wheels.. it's about how you handle your bike....that's what all the 26ers say
Me rida my bicycle Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 So had my morning out on the Scott genius plus. Have to say climbing wasn't that bad climbed much better than the carbon Reign but think the twin lock has a lot to do with that.As for pointing it down now that's where the fun starts smashed my time down Cobra! It was as good down as I imagined. If it's all out fun your looking for it would be hard to beat, grip is unbelievable this was an immense confidence booster. The only down side to this bike was the weight (14.9kg) and unbelievable uncomfortable seat o ja and sh#t fusion dropper and lever. It was great fun to ride but for my riding it would still be my trusted 29er HT. In sence of comfort not much difference but the speed of the 29er and ease of keeping the speed is unmatched by the 6fatty or any other size.
CarbonKid Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I have been on all 3. I loved my YETI 26er (full sus) and it never missed a beat. What a great ride. Then I went 29er (also full sus) like everyone else and have never crashed so much in all my riding carer, so after much deliberation I just bought a brand new 650b and what a lovely ride. Its just in that sweet spot between a 26er and a 29er, but it handles so well in the tight stuff and I easily stay with the 29ers along the long flat stretches. So I hope I have made the right choice. I am 1.80m tall and ride a large 650b and very conmfortable for all those nay sayers that say a tall'ish person cant ride a 650b? Is it really about the wheel size? I think the jury is out on that one? I just love riding and I guess they all have their pro's and con's? It isn't an exact science.

MAN, they have a good selection of stuff in the back of the shop !!! And only R600
MrJacques Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 At this stage I'm leaning towards 650b for my next bike. But... there seems to be less tire options and they are more expensive than 29er tires from what I've seen. At least it seems like 650b has a future as a rear tyre.

They don't bring in a big variety of 650b tyres because they don't sell and they don't sell because the distributors have been successful at promoting the 29er wheel only and therefore tyres.Lower import volumes of 650b tyres and a discouraging pricing policy makes 650b a little less attractive. It's a shame because for longer travel bikes I much prefer 650b.
Headshot Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 There are plenty of options for 27 5 trail and enduro bike tyres in SA. Maxxis ftw.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 There are plenty of options for 27 5 trail and enduro bike tyres in SA. Maxxis ftw.Yep. No shortage of options, now that RUSH has the Maxxis range, and Easybike / Evo etc carry Schwalbe and others, with Spaz taking up the other end. Titan are looking to perhaps expand the choice of good Vittoria rubber beyond the sagauro and mezcal etc as they are specced on their bikes, and then there are the import options which fill the gap. Goodyear, Michelin, Conti, Kenda... all available at the click of a mouse.

DieselnDust Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 According to one rep xc tyres outnumber trail by about 4:1 but I guess that is only for their portfolio. Its probably a bigger ratio.I suspect most light trail 29er are purchased as marathon bikes and therfore fitted with xc tyres
