The Cobra is trickier than any other feature I've encountered on any of the Cape MTB races - trailseekers, Robertson, STBB, Elgin etc --- I've not seen anything as tricky as that.

Agree - have been cycling for (too many) years now. Cobra is trickier than 99% of the technical stuff I have encountered on regular XCM funrides & stage races.

Well I'm not really fit enough for the 60k MTB at this point but I'm just going to take it nice and slow and enjoy the day. I ride these trails all the time so I'm looking forward to having them put together in a different combination.

As for the Cobra - sometimes I get off and walk it and sometimes I ride it depending on my mood and my confidence levels. I have walked a mate out of there pushing his bike and mine after he bust his collarbone once before so I am wary of it.

Go for it!!!

Am debating trying the 60km mtb. Am quite fit, but not a mountain biker. Wondering if I'm being naively optimistic, as usual.

Entered! Now just to find some mtb shoes before tomorrow!

Rather go with flats. Last year I had to get off the bike more than twice because people in front had to clip out and push their bikes over perfectly rideable terrain.

Flats/SPD's got nothing to do with it. It is the skill / experience of the rider. I don't see Nino or MVDP using flats?

never seen Nino or MVDP riding the Durdie Dash

I've never ridden it so I'm making an assumption.

Yep, literally for 20 meters out of the whole 60km race you can justify using flats. But to be fair that is Roux's stock comment for every mtb event thread so one should see it from that perspective.

ya ney, same old story. its hard work getting around them unclipping noobs on flats.

also which 20m is this you speak of?

The more technically gifted guys on here will laugh at this but I have walked that section more often than I have ridden it + I bought a piece of land there on a day I was full of confidence... Pity I wasn't wearing flats that day  :whistling:

i've done trickier descents, but perhaps not in an MTB race.  they've cleaned up that tricky corner that follows the rock slab,  it's still tricky though.
