Wow, that is crazy.

Firstly, glad your girl is okay.

I can't understand how you hit a child, drive away and even go as far as denying the whole thing when caught.

Finally, is there any way one can secure a police docket?

I mean, can you make photocopies of it somehow to keep as a backup at your lawyers office when the original, inevitably, goes missing?

I really hope you manage to take this further.

Get well soon, little one.

My daughter (9 years old) was cycling to school on Monday afternoon when she was hit by a lady in an i10 after failing to stop at a stop street. After driving over my daughter's arm and hand she proceeded to floor it and tried to make a getaway.

Ambulance attended to my daughter, cracked Radius and also cracked some small bones in the hand but it does not seem as if she will need physio, just a pretty pink cast for a good few weeks (ages when you're 9)

Unfortunately for the driver:

1) There's a security company's camera(s) recording that corner

2) There were 3 people handing out Fibre installation pamphlets who saw the whole thing and are willing to testify

3) There was a lawyer at one of the other 3 stop streets that pursued the i10, found her and got her back to the accident scene. Also very pissed off and willing to testify.

Her family arrived at the scene and tried to kick up a bit of a fuss about 'babies' on bicycles, but was quickly shut up by the bystanders. Fortunately I arrived a few minutes after this. So the cops eventually arrived on scene and did a spectacularly poor job as per usual. It now seems as if the docket has disappeared as well ... ffs. We're opening a new one later today if they can't find it.

A few things that really, really pisses me off:

1) She just drove off. Sure, it may be attributed to shock, BUT

2) She denied having hit anything or anybody when the lawyer confronted her at her home after chasing her down. There's paint missing from the driver's door where she hit my daughter's bike.

3) Her dad wanted me to 'not report it as a hit and run' so that she wouldn't be arrested, and he would cover the costs involved (maybe not a bribe but said in the same breath) This I could almost, just about agree to seeing as to the alleged perpetrator's demographics BUT

4) She came over to 'apologize' to me whilst I was talking to the cops and said she stopped and asked if my girl is ok - something neither the eyewitnesses, lawyer nor camera footage confirms.

All in all, my daughter is ok apart from not being able to play in the netball or tennis teams anymore, and possibly losing out on performing with her ballet troupe in the State Theatre in July. The lady wasn't arrested on scene, but a case of hit and run was opened (not 100% sure on the legal terms here)

Wow, I am so glad your daughter is ok. I am not sure I would have remained so calm.

If nothing comes of the legal route, just plaster her name and face on social media, will be better fall out for the driver anyway. Employers dont like the, "hit a school girl and drove away type".

Very glad you daughter is OK.

Please follow this through, this hits home like you wouldn't believe. I have two daughters, 3yo and 3mo, and I intend to send them to the same school... We stay 200m from it.

THESE FLIPPEN 4-way stops in our area are accidents waiting to happen, people just glide through them like they have right of way. The best reactions come from the people behind you when you come to a complete stop at one instead of gliding through, like you are the one in the wrong.

I still think we should make a social media storm out of this after the law has taken its course. Remove all the names, places and demographics and put it out there for people to realize what is at stake here, the jail sentence and the injurie, the lives of 2 families daughters impacted.

Sorry this is off topic but I have to ask. Is it common in Pretoria to let 9-year old's cycle to school on their own? Would make me nervous as hell if my 8&10 year old kids cycled to school.

Anyway, so glad the lady got caught. People not taking responsibility for their actions and fleeing the scene are the worst kind of scum.

Edit: Before my post gets construed the wrong way - when I was her age I also cycled to school (without a helmet and without a light when it was dark in winter) so I don't doubt her ability to handle herself. It's just not something I see in my town at all nowadays. Our preparatory school (for upto Grade 3) doesn't even have bike racks and bikes can't even get through the revolving gates the kids use.

Go after them, all in. There is no way anyone should get away with this. Use social media, private investigator, lawyer (new best friend) from the scene, basically any and all opportunity to make sure they pay for what they did. I say they, as it seems the father is now implicated. This could have turned out much worse, you guys are so very lucky that she is ok. Not so lucky for others who have lost family and friends out there on our chaotic roads.  Please keep us updated.

Shew, sorry to hear this. Glad daughter is okay.

Accidents happen. But the fact that the perpetrator and her family reacted in the way that they did....as opposed to acknowledging fault... will be reason enough for me to tenaciously pursue the case against her.

No wonder she drove off. Her whole family seems to be f#in self centered a@@holes.

If it was my own family member I'd stand in line to give her klap...id always be there for my family but I'll let them know when they messed up.

Hectic!

No.  There are a few kids but they are few and far between.
