I DO wish everybody took the time to rate though...

This.

As a relative new comer to the hub and classifieds, I've done 2 transactions so far that went very smoothly. I rated the other party, but nothing in return. My classifieds profile remains like a new born as a result.

so after all of this on this thread I took a look at my ratings and it seems all comments lead to the fact I am in the wrong line of work and should go into packaging :P

The buying and selling on here has been a thing since the beginning. Some people have started a successful business from it. As for the offers I don't mind offers sometimes I just wanna get rid of stuff that's taking up space so not gonna cry over couple bucks, but these guys that just drop a price so far from what you have it advertised, to these I don't even reply.

You should feel free to ask them to please do it for you. Most people will do it gladly, but many don't think about it unless they buy and sell regularly.

Sounds more like specific people not interested in humans or socialising and just want to get "bargains" or trades.

I do agree that your description aligns with my own gumtree/olx experiences. I would hazard a guess that the onus falls on the bikehub users/community members to mould it how they want it, rather how they receive it. Bikehub is after all a community platform with selling features and not a selling platform!

That is all easier said than done - if it isn't against the rules (it may be), a thread with usernames to avoid that lowball or aren't courteous... Just realised I described what the rating system was designed for.

I don't see the issue. You want to sell something, I want to offer and if you want to let it go at that price then ok. Otherwise you make a counter offer or ignore the offer.

The clasifieds is just that a place to sell be it BH/OLX/Alibaba whatever.

No one is there to make friends, at least you know there is a lowball offer and if there are a lot of offers at a similar price you know you were dreaming when toy valued you product.

I prefer it that way. Get to the point please.

To those I guys I just reply with a screenshot of the ad, with the price circled in red and an arrow pointing to it.

My 2 or 3 ratings came after I asked the buyer/seller to please rate the transaction.

I'm going to start doing that :D

Yup, best way to do it. I've done probably around 60 or 70 transactions here and only have about 10 ratings - besides from one or two people doing so themselves, the majority was from me asking, or me first rating the other guy.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!  :)

We are busy working on the first version of our new Classifieds update. The aim is to improve and grow the Classifieds but, at the same time, we are very aware of the importance of the community aspects of Bike Hub.

We have been meeting with Hubbers to get early feedback on the updates, and we will be presenting these for comment more broadly in the coming months.

We are already working on fixes for a number of the gripes that have been mentioned in this thread, but there are always things that we haven't consider. So please keep this conversation going (here and in the other classifieds discussions).

Nick please add the ability to re-arrange photos in the ad?

As it is now you have to first upload the pic you want to see as the thumbnail then go add the rest of the pics in one go and hope the order is not too bad and then have to delete everything and start again photo by photo because the order makes no rhyme or reason.

Yes! While we initially only thought of allowing the preview image to be selectable, one of the Hubbers we chatted to this week also brought up the ability to arrange the order of all the photos. So we're definitely looking into adding it.

My favorite question: "What is your best price?"

Which is just a short way of saying "I don't want to go through the delicate dance of negotiating with you as a peer, let's skip dinner and go straight to bed"

Where has the art of negotiation gone?

That one also gets me, worse is typically once you tell the guy your best price they make an even lower counter offer.

Or the guys that just send a lowball price and nothing else, "R800", lazy and impolite but still wants the most amazing price.

Then there's the most irritating of all, you go to all the trouble of taking lots of nice pics of what you are selling, then some idiot sends you a message and says "can you send me pics?"

Huh!??

That leads to my personal favourite, the guy that messages you on Bikehub about your ad that has your phone number in and says "I'm interested in your ad please whatsapp me on 082XXXXXXX", no buddy that's not the way it works....you whatsapp me and I'll gladly reply!!!

The same guy will probably then ignore your whatsapp or reply and then ask for pics....
