Removing pedals

leverage, you need leverage.

Local wrecking yard should be able to help with a piece of 1m length pipe that will fit over a 8 or 10mm allen key handle. Apply pressure and a bit of JMSP and it'll free it self.

..but yes OP,make sure you are not turning them the wrong way...reverse threads. nothing to do with shimano either....blame the egg beaters and whoever didn't put copper grease in the threads before installing.

I have been battling to remove a set of Eggbeater pedals from Shimano cranks. The bike has been standing unused for years. Eggbeaters do not have a 15 mm space outside of the crank to fit a crank spanner but only have the allen key inside  of the crank . Will heat/cold treatment work without weakening the cranks?

have you tried using an impact driver?

You do all know that it is a bicycle shop asking a specific question.

I'd rather the shop ask questions than think they know best and fail to epoxy a BB cup when the manufacturer recommends it.

we can go on about why there is no problem with that... but lets not waste our time.

Thanks guys.

Took the crank off and held in boiling water then used the allen key in the vice and used the crank for leverage ..in the right direction .

Cheers and thanks again ...no not a Spez

glad you got it sorted.

For future reference, the galling can sometimes be unsettled by spanking the screw, which in this case is the pedal spindle. the crank will need to be supported properly, especially if there's a threaded insert into which the pedal screws. insert a straight allen key, or a socketed allen key, and wack that sucker good and proper.

Next time you have k@k like that, use a squirt of WD40. It's a deep penetrating substance that breaks oxidized items. Also works for seatposts that have gotten stuck in the frame

And next time you mount them make sure you just nip them tight - no need to torque them to "moer" tight.

And put a dab of copper grease on the threads and they will never corrode and get stuck.

Correct torque: Until it strips, then quarter turn back.
