Okes. I can offer a rider or a rider and a friend ( if you will share a queen size bed) a place to sleep the night before Munga.

A comfy bed, we can get a bottle of whiskey and a couple of prostitutes if you wish. And I will feed you well. And as Taito will confirm, you may service your bike in my lounge. If anybody needs a spot to kip. Pop me a PM.

I completely forgot about you Vettes. Sorry. I ended up booking at the Casino

Some advise for us noobs. Do you believe in a strategy or do you make one up as you go?

Any other tips you could share?

As Vettie says its to unpredictable. There will be wind lots of it,mostly from the front ,just ride. This is not a normal ride you have lots of time.If conditions are crazy just chill along the road for a while. Dont overthink this race is mind over matter.

And Taper now no more hard rides. If you are a maargat like me ,eat eat eat.

Trying to plan your stops and sleepstops does not work well.Power naps on the route works wonders.Ride until the sleep monsters come calling then take a powernap, you will be amazed how far you can then carry on for.

When me and Vetseun rode the race I was going up a little pass outside sutherland and the wind was gail.I dragged myself into the veld -found a little gaaitjie and chilled under my space blanket for 30min. when 2 other riders came past I joined in.

Let the dot watching begin.....FOMO

Thank you. Doing the 12 hr on Saturday and then hoping to start tapering. Definitely not a maar gat! Far from it. Possibly the biggest rider if not one of the biggest that is going to be doing it. It helps on the downhills.

I suggest you only accept fluids from sealed containers, and watch this man take the first bite of what ever he feeds you,

I can confirm I have woken up in bloem not having a clue what happened the night before.

PLEASE STAY VIGILANT AT ALL TIMES

I'm not sure what the bloem prossies are like these days, but if they are anything like what i've seen at mystieks at 3am then they would have no problem servicing RAMROD

The newsletter they just sent out is getting me excited to start dotwatching again!! One day I really want to do the Munga when funds and time allows it...

"This year for the first time will see us hit the 150 mark as almost 160 odd riders line up to battle the heat and wind of the Karoo! So who do we think the top contenders are...

For starters Ramses Bekkenk has to be the outright favourite although no Munga champion has yet successfully defended his title! An ominous stat. Ramses has to defy four years of race history to change this. His blistering ride of last year is going to be hard to beat. Then what about the 2017 winner Marco Martins! Yes, he is back after battling with a bug last year and pulling out around the 800km mark. I have also been in contact with John Ntuli who was keen to race, but who knows! Other exciting news is that Jean Biermans is back after succumbing to the heat in 2016. In fact, you can contribute to Jean's fund raising effort by clicking here. It's going to be frantic out front.

Doesn't seem like they are giving any of the locals a chance? No mention at all...

Not sure I have recovered enough since RASA.

That was a tough, tough race and I was completely stuffed after dot watching for 14 days solid and now it starts again.

Will just have to suffer the long days and risk overuse injury as I keep clicking the refresh button...
