Can we also get an apology from all the other posters that assumed the driver was guilty and was trying to claim damages on the vehicle that was already there?

they need to start that apology in the mirror, because if they are honest, they made utter fools of themselves. In public nogal. It was just cringeworthy sanctimonious rubbish tbh.

hell,  maybe they should go help the guy pay for the damages.

Indeed - all those that so quickly jumped on the bandwagon blaming the motorist with absolutely NO proof whatsoever - you know who are

at least we have closure!

I am still waiting for the outcome on the Spez BB thread.

We have left Sandton Police Station after meeting Justin Erasmus at the investigating detectives office.

Justin is not riding with a club. He was on his mountain bike when he attacked the vehicle.

He was stopped by a group of riders from a club who was in close vicinity of him who reprimanded him and told him that the vehicle was not in the wrong. He admitted that he is getting counseling for PTSD.

Before the case can be withdrawn, the following conditions must be met:

1. A written apology must be issued for his behavior and personal attack on the driver which will be posted on all forms of social media.

2. He must go for anger management counselling.

3. He must pay the total repair cost to the vehicle by the 2nd of October 2019 which amounts to R25,374.97.

Wait so everyone is just going to glaze over the fact it was a MTB'er...

Point 4 should be buy a road bike so this level of anger does not arise again.

Was that quick hoot delivered when you were already right up their back wheels driving at 120km/hr and using that "Listen here cretin I'm annoyed" hooter tone .....?

I took my youngest for a drive around the peninsula the day for the Argust this year. She wanted to see where daddy was going to ride his bicycle. Somewhere just after the reserve I came upon a group of cyclists, fairly large group 20 odd riders was my guess. I saw them from a distance so slowed down and matched their speed while hanging about 50m back from their last rider. at this stage they were taking up the whole lane so I gave a short sharp hoot and waited.

They quickly shuffled into at worst a double pace line, leaving enough space for me to pass them safely in the other lane. At this point a poephol in a 4tjuna comes speeding past me and the group of cyclists and naturally the 4tjuna gets the friendly handgesture :)

I then proceeded to overtake and got a lot of friendly thank you waves

It very much depends on the execution what the outcome will be. Drive like a poephol and you get the one finger salute.

Drive with consideration and you get the friendly wave.

Cyclist who rides like a tjop doesn't have to die. This isn't Game of Thrones....

Now if that group had left enough space for the 4tjuna to pass, how close would it actually have passed them?

To answer your question, NO. The quick hoot was always delivered long enough in advance and while driving at a speed safe for the circumstances, probably something foreign to a dweller of the peninsula such as yourself...

Fortunately there was no contact between the trailer and the cycle. Otherwise the incident may have been tragic and the outcome far worse for all the  parties.

Notwithstanding that there is no implication of fault on the part of your employee, perhaps your company would consider making a donation of a similar amount to the Pedal Power Association, to be used specifically towards funding their "Stay Wider of the Rider" advertising campaign?

So he must use the money paid to make his vehicle right, not to fix the car, but to donate. And then presumably must fix the car as well?

By the driver's account, and the witnesses (also cyclists) and the person who did the damage - the driver was not at fault... So why exactly should the company be donating anything?

"Stay Wider of the Rider" is an important campaign but I doubt most companies have excess cash to just throw at it for no reason?

I think a lesson we can all learn from this ...dont assume anything until you have the facts.

Remember when Carla Swart was killed. Most of the  Hub wanted to lynch the truck driver that hit her. Later her riding partner made a statement that she lost control whilst fiddling with her bike computer pick up and drove into the truck.

Lots of assumptions there too and no apologies came either.

I would be very disgruntled and if my name was posted on a forum with accusations like these, even if they were proven to be true. What do you get out of posting his name (now everyone in the world can track him down) after those fair requests were made?

Anyways, what's the car made of under that white paint? Gold leaf? The photos only show some dents and scratches on 2 panels - buy a panel for R2500 and a door for another R2500, R1000-2000 labour charge for assembly en voila. Was there more damage to the car not shown in the 2 photos posted prior?

Because they still experienced a close encounter first hand that sounds like it could've been avoided had they kept a safe following distance... A donation would show empathy and sincerity from the company's side.
