I don't understand why esports exists (any discipline)

Rugby is 15 men playing a game with a ball against 15 others, once you think about it it all doesn't make logical sense that a whole industry is created around sport.

The only difference is that the arena is moving online...

The psychology of racing is still the same

Therefore, greed and 'stealing' will operate in any domain where competition is involved.

The bra can't is banned from the race in the real world now as well.

The "Tron" or Z1 Concept bike on Zwift is earned by riding and climbing vertical meters.

One has to climb 50 000m to unlock the bike.

This dude had a program do the distance so he can have the bike available for his races.

The bike is the "fastest" bike in terms of weight, and aerodynamics (based on algorithms in the game which relates to bike speed from rider effort.

So, like micro dosing, he gained advantage through cheating.

Cheating, yes, because I am 7000m away from unlocking the concept bike. Sure, I could have manipulated my weight to get there faster, but then I would only have cheated myself.

Does E what ever sport actually mean you are any good at that specific sport? 2 scenarios, my boet is a gamer and whenever we have played arcade or pc against each other at what ever game he klaps me. Even at a car racing game he make me look for parking. Get onto the track in a car or go cart and the roles are reversed. Other scenario is from big bang theory when they got a nintendo wee and they played tennis(I think?). Now in real world guys like that would never be able to or even think of playing a sport yet put it online and they game(excuse the pun). Me personally, I would just prefer to do the real thing.

Some of the details that came out was that he set the Simulator to 2000W, riding 200km at a time, with a body weight of 45KG. He also used various VPN accounts to log in from different international locations every time he started the simulator, and he deleted the activity from his Zwift profile the moment he finished the "ride"

He went out of his way to get the bike as quick as possible by gaming the system and intentionally tried to evade detection.

The rules of engagement for this segment of riding/exercising/competing will surely develop over time as the regulations need to develop as the users test the boundaries.

As indicated with the Canyon E-racing team, the participants identified through the online race series translated well into podiums and other accolades in the real world.

so as a blanket statement according to your anecdotal research, most people will not be as good in the real world vs online is he same sport.

Incidentally,

The GT Academy (Based on the game Gran Turismo) has also proved successful at talent identification.

Participants competed against other racers, and the top racers in each country then competed for a spot in the real-world academy.

Think of it as flight simulators.... surely a Pilot cant be a real pilot if he did his training on a flight simulator?

The counter argument for this is that if you pay subscription fees to a platform provider (and use their platform for training) you gain an advantage - which I'm completely against.

It's actually pretty easy to get the Tron bike if you're training hard - less than 3 months if you're doing an hour a day riding from the start to the top of the mast is about 650m of climbing IIRC, and is doable in an hour for me, so less for him. and with Alpe du Zwift available now you can get 1200m of climbing in around 1h30-2h (the climb is shorter but the run in takes about 20m).

In order to get to where he did physically, it's necessary to train, alot. If paying to use a specific app while you're training (maybe Cam uses Trainerroad / Rouvey / Sufferfest) will buy you an advantage during a national / world championship, then to me that's worse than writing code to get that advantage for you quicker as it is essentially saying that subscribers to Zwift will get an automatic x Watts added to their output during a national / world championship event.

I've used Zwift since the beta days, have logged more than 10000km and 103000m of climbing, but for this to give me a "real" advantage (other than course knowledge) over a competitor is unfair in my opinion.
