this thread is proof that removing comments from classifieds was a fail.

It is THE REASON why we need them back.

 

would mods rather a separate thread be created every single time  Or that other threads be bombarded with adverts and comments on offending adverts.?

That basically makes their reasons regarding the moderation of comments in adverts a moot point...since they are having to moderate them here regardless.

EDIT: OP should PM a complaint to mods about comments on his advert compromising the sale of his item lol.

 

I maintain....new bikehub  does not have classified comment functionality built in....thats why they were "removed" and that is why it is being touted as "more betterer" to not have them.

Internet forums are long dead and dying, with only a few survivors left. It's ultimately the members that keeps it going. I've seen too many changes by administrators that lead members to go off and create facebook groups, whether it's just buy/sell groups or stupid comment groups. Facebook is a threat to all on the internet. Their goal is ultimately to be the only gateway for information when you connect to the internet. Sad really, as the forum/online message board platform is still the best resource of random information for any hobbyist etc.

Suppose it's up to admin to make that decision which is best for its survival. But imo, it's all about the users/members and keeping them active here.

if you want quality, you go where it is found, the specialists. In my opinion that will never become obsolete.

I don't think you guys understand how insubstantial the forum side of this site is. Also, very few of the die hard BikeHub users are click to buy ad users. I'm including myself in this.

 

Our numbers pale in comparison to the 'real' users and without us idiots, the forums would probably be a lot more constructive for people actually looking for answers.

 

I'm out on this topic. The comments on the ads are not necessary. Currently, the best flaggers/reporters and 'informal' moderators aren't forum users. 

 

But, no one is willing to see this because we all spend our free time or work time or wife time here chatting nonsense so feel we are a valuable part of the business. 

 

Really we are those few employees that demand a smoking garden, ash trays and comfortable benches, take multiple smoke breaks in the day, make a mess that the company needs to constantly clean up and then go home believing we do all the work and keep the company afloat.

 

Note that I include myself in this.

 

Not having comments on ads IN NO WAY affects the forums or those using them, but comments on ads DO effect the classifieds and the (many more) users there.

 

We don't need to cross pollinate.

if it is indeed all the 'real' users who only buy and sell on here, and not us moegoes with pitchforks, someone is going to see that gap and boef those users by making it more secure and easier to buy and sell....and leave us lot to continue bickering on here, since we ad absolutely zero value anyway. It's no secret that the bulk of site activity on Bike Hub takes place in the Classifieds. That doesn't mean the forums and forum user are of no value, quite the contrary, but it does shape our decision making.

 

On revenue, you're correct, some of it comes from ads which rely on quality traffic for any meaningful return, but we already generate a good chunk of our revenue from the Classifieds in the form of listing fees for dealers and optional upgrades for all users. Much of our Classifieds roadmap focusses on making the buying/selling process safer and more convenient... there's much more to come.

I used to be part of a fishing forum turned club. One day they decided to change to facebook as they could not keep up with the constant site updates. Needless to say they loss around 80% of its members. This a few years ago. Then the site owner tried a whatsapp group thing to try and get the site up and running again. That also failed.

I am a forum  guy, I hate face book, all its pop ups etc. I dont have time to be distracted by little updates and so on.

So for the few local forums still available, I am extremely grateful. There are also others internationally.

 

I agree with a few posters, if the price is right it will sell. Some people believe they can get more for an item than what its worth.

Maybe. I have a facebook profile, was probably one of the first few using facebook way before all the ads, updates, poking etc. Then it got bad and I got gatvol.

 

I remember telling people and sending them links to facebook and they never had a clue.
