I am assuming the prices we see now online are based on the existing stock and at the prices these shops paid when the ZAR was stronger (before lock down) Assuming the prices you have stated above are correct and we do see massive price hikes due to the exchange rate, you can expect price increases across all brands of groupsets to follow suit. However if these stores are buying in bulk perhaps they getting it at a much cheaper price than the prices you quoting. (Cant say for sure, dont have the inside info) I think if things become too expensive and people may look towards alternative non mainstream groupsets in future......My opinion, nothing wrong with the good old 2x or 1x 11 or 10 speed groupset.my primary ride will now be a 1 x 1 for the fore-sable future in order to preserve the drive train on the 1 x 11 bike! I find it helps to future proof the looks of the gruppo a bit - especially cranks chande appearance a lot, and I ride my stuff for long if it works well. ChrisF Posted May 12, 2020 Share One good thing RE an internal gearbox is that it would only be the cost of a single speed chain, the odd cog after many thousands of km's and oil once a year in the box to keep the bike rocking and rolling .... so should be ridiculously cheaper in the long run.Which is probably why it never got support from the manufacturers .... Wont be the first time that good ideas are delayed by big business ...Shimano already has a gearbox, it's mostly a touring/commuting groupset. The market isn't willing to accept the weight and drag. The drag is getting less, but gearboxes are still pretty heavy. Oh and the fact that it does not fit on almost all frames. My 10 speed deore chain and cassette are due for replacement and I managed to destroy my rear derailleur this morning. Seems like the perfect time to move to 12spd.
