I'm so over this mask thing. The lockdowns hidden agenda was finally revealed when Cyril said that the lockdown is a great economical opportunity to get rid of colonialist business owners. We all know he means white people.

Yeah so the whole world has gone into lockdown just so that the white colonialists from SA give the wealth back to black people

Reading these comments we might as well all drive 4L cars and f&^% the environment.

Most people dont do it so why should I?

Why recycle, why reduce my carbon footprint, why care about how animals are treated in the zoo. Why call the police when I see someone breaking into the neighbors house.

Why care about kids being abused, wife beaters, etc

We can not change the world, so why vote for a political party, why adhere to the speed limit, get my kid to school uniform....

Lets just all decide what and how we want to follow rules and not be sheeple.....we are all adults and we know what is best and when.

Oooh I like pressing your buttons. It's so easy and very entertaining.

If you went into Africa (proper Africa not a game park) You'd see the futility of all of your middle class cliche's like carbon footprint and recycling. The place is Fcked. And you with your mask and recycling bag, which incidentally is made of plastic can do precisely zero about it.

I agree with the quagga buttons comment - it really is an unfair guilty pleasure.  But the rest of Africa comment is not my experience.  My business is outside of SA in the rest of Africa, and while comparatively and seemingly disorganized, "chaotic" and without apparent system or order,  you could not be further from the truth.  It is just less western than SA.  But make no mistake, things work, just in ways that you are not familiar with, and likely would be uncomfortable with

but this is my point - you seem quite preoccupied to unearth my "intent", rather than acknowledge that my risk mitigation is equally effective, even though it ignores the rules.  Why are you so worried about my intent?  It seems to be the same point that is being made over and over again which is steeped in moral outrage and you all twisting yourselves in knots to try to frame my behaviour as "bad" by coming up with all these silly hypotheticals.

I will give it to you that riding ABSOLUTELY alone without a mask is better than riding without a mask and giving people wide berths.

Your approach isn't completely "bad" from a risk perspective, there are definitely worse approaches. My intention was to show that:

1. You are not adhering to the rules by riding without a mask and no amount of justification will change that.

2. It is more risky to ride like you do from a community transmission perspective than to just comply and ride with the mask on while still doing everything else the same.

EDIT:Simplified my post after reading it, seemed clumsy.

When you said "Viral Load" I was thinking "yes it's going all the way for a 6!!!" Then...

You miss his point.

Viral load or concentration in more mundane chemical terms is highly variable on every breathe you exhale. The mask offers an opportunity for that concentration to increase into a very small transport mechanism where as without it you exhale exceptionally low concentrations, hence low ris of transmission.

Now with a saturated mask dripping from the side of your face with high "viral load" you increase the risk. This was the WHO's original stand point until they decided to change tack

Then why does every Doc I know insist on Masks in public? So we do not drop the virus everywhere?

So if the sweet on the side of my face now has a higher viral load, but it is also heavier so it will fall to ground quicker?

Why did I read all those website when I could just have asked you. Stupid me, stupid doc's.

D I D knows best.

I have chosen to ignore them, based on an assessment of rationality, along the same lines as Trevor Manuel.

I dont agree. It is theoretically more risky, but the actual risk increment does not move any dial - we seem to be fixating on such a small matter when such bigger issues surround us I find it laughable

So do you support the notion that we all assess rules and laws, and only follow the ones that we deem appropriate?

it is the responsibility of all citizens in a functioning democratic society to critically consider the actions of the government, including its rules and laws, and to call out those that are pernicious, self-serving or irrational.  This is responsible civic duty, and exposes things like E-tolls and other misuse of government power to demand responsible governance, for the betterment of all

While I agree that e-tolls are parasitic, it is not a virus that kills people though.

come on, the principle is exactly the same.

It seems that the lockdown rules were well intentioned (although even that is disputed), but MANY of them were just straight up absurd, and 100% counterproductive.  for example, the 3-hour exercise window, clustering everyone together within a 5km radius.  We all benefit by considering and calling out stupid rules, whether they be C19 or e-tolls
