Pikey Posted August 17, 2020 Share I was in Italy for business and went to Caldonazzo to see a chap called Dario Pegoretti. Unfortunately he died before building my frame. I think he knew a bit about bikes so let me give you his view on the question. He said that builders have had a century to learn about tuning the ride of a rim-brake frame; that moving the braking force away from the top of the fork and rear triangle to the bottom, and asymmetrically at that means you have to beef up the fork and frame and that has a negative effect on compliance and accordingly comfort. Therefore if you want a stiff, well tuned, comfortable ride, stay with rim brakes unless the bulk of your riding is in on long descents in the rain in which case disks have their place.Maybe it’s this ^^^^ eddy and Mongoose!

Jewbacca Posted August 17, 2020 Share never heard someone say I'm so glad I got rid of that ColnagoI sold an old pink and white Master frame and chrome fork many moons ago for whatever seemed a good reason at the time... I regret that decision every single day. DieselnDust and Wayne pudding Mol

TNT1 Posted August 20, 2020 Share I take it you all saw that discs are not infallible?https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/giro-dellemilia-pellaud-left-with-facial-injuries-following-brake-failure/ Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec's Simon Pellaud has been left nursing facial injuries and broken teeth after his disc brakes failed on a descent at the Giro dell'Emilia on Tuesday DieselnDust

Having seen the start of the cycling season I am starting to agree more and more with this sentiment. There are still a lot of really good riders binning it on descents with discs. There are also a lot of pro's who refuse discs, I think people really over simplify the rims vs discs. On a separate note, find it a little unfair that some riders just got slammed onto the new Tarmac and straight into a race after training on the old one according to their Insta, must be a little off putting. Focusspeed1 Posted August 20, 2020 Share Hi Chris, to be honest there are a few comments i havent read as it was too insightful... Dunno if that makes any sense at all... I just checked in so now and then to see if i could get a plain and simple... Rim, or disc... I am appreciative of all the advice.. But as mentioned this just confused the hell out of me and decided,............... To just carry on with wot i have right now, wait and see how things play out in the next 6 mnths-year. Mayb just upgrade to a carbon frame for now and eventually when there is more clarity. Do a complete upgrade or new purchase... eddy and DieselnDust
