Clothing Research for Upcoming Cycling Apparel Brand: "Salt Move"

- we often buy matching kits ... which very few make for parents and kids ...

Cycling couture. So made in house to measure?

 

Will you be branding tech fabric and joining Ciovita/Enjoy/Vye etc, go a bit more into the Rapha market or will you be making rad out the box 'couture' cycling clothes like Kitsbow https://www.kitsbow.com/collections/mens-collection

I am interested. As an ex fashion industry person with a fashion design diploma, when people throw 'couture' at me in their marketing blurb I immediately wonder how that translates to the real world these days.

 

I sincerely hope you aren't just going to make 'funky prints' and sublimations and try to pass that off under a 'couture' guise. That would really hurt my feelings. 

 

I hope it's something Johnny Wheeler aka Poppi/Benedict/Ronnie would wear..... But then unfortunately the market is so small making money will be an issue.

 

IMHO doing anything in the fashion industry sucks.

Q3... we live in SA, no need for anything but full summer kit year round. For me anyway - I didn't see that option.

 

TBH, I just want some plain black shorts with a pocket to go over my bib, and any well ventilated exercise t shirt (apparently inpossible to find in any cycling brand, so I just buy UnderArmour vanish shirts).

 

Oh, and I sweat in it, so if it's expensive I'm not interested. I have yet to find any exercise shirt I don't have to throw out after a season of use.

If it were me, I reckon design ‘The One’ item that you REALLY put a lot of research/design and BREATHABILITY into it, under-branded, so attractive, discreet logo that is aspirational...

 

Think ‘whisper’, and not S-H-O-U-T-!

 

Name is interesting, not sure, but then I called my company Flying Brick. - weird, right so maybe the name will work with time!

 

Size-breaks are less/fewer in cycling than motorcycling, where we run 16 sizes, sometimes with 2 leg lengths, so there is THAT in your favour!

 

Caps and Beanies are a dime a dozen, and I think that Ciovita et al are well down the road, ahead of you, so if it were me, build the ONE understated technical cycling top that people HAVE to have, THEN, 12-24 months, build on your successes,and add to the range piecemeal...

I say good luck - get your sizing right for SA , comfort and value. I’ll pay whatever as long as it’s value

I love Rapha but it’s insanely expensive especially when you add duties

 

Like grease monkey, the lack of comfortable over bib shorts is bewildering - an adjustable waistband would be nice

Interestingly I have worn dungarees and cargos in tokai, for wet and cold winter rides years ago, before the fire destroyed the place. I have moved on to a ripstop cargo hiking pants for these days.

I have a few branded goods, but like my more discreet labelled stuff these days.

I have a pair of black stretch jeans I ride with. Not sure if I want to cut them up, kinda like the tears and holes in them.
