I don't have a LBS.

Other than the Tops at the spar.

Did my first brake bleed this weekend, and other than suspension and pressfit BB's I don't really need to book a bike in.

for parts and consumables, it's hit and miss, due to availibility of certain things, but of late, Sportsmans warehouse has been my go-to.

I have a cajees basically next to sportsmans, but I refuse flat-out to use them.

Another big thanks to Mark's Workshop and to Evobikes.

Did a major service of a bike and needed the odd spares.

Now we all know of the stock shortages ....

Janos at Evobikes dug in his and tried to help.

I then popped in at Mark's ... nope, out of stock .... but wait, and Mark starts digging through his spares boxes .... JIP, got the last bits.

Service completed, just did a nice test ride :)

Had some excellent service from Danny at The Bicycle Workshop in Fourways. Although their store is difficult to find once you got it you will receive great service and good knowledge

Seeing as there’s quite a few new cyclists on the site, I thought it would be good to revive this thread 😁

My all-in recommendations accessible to the Joburg north area are:

Mellow Velo (Broadacres, near Fourways, Gauteng) is my LBS. Ian, Wes, Evo, Ben, Pro and all the rest of the guys and gals are top folks. Mitch does a fantastic bike fit. Wide range of stock of all the well-known brands, and can get you anything you need via order

@RobertWhitehead (Garstfontein, Pretoria, Gauteng) for second hand bike builds that are damn well priced and super reliable (and he’s a mechanical Yoda and usually has just the parts you need in his bins and buckets)

Jakes aka Jaco from Shockingly Good Bicycle Service Company (Witpoortjie, Krugersdorp, Gauteng) for suspension services, and he also does all manner of other work

Agree fully re Jakes/SGB. He's the ONLY suspension guy.

Press fit BB or bearings, threaded rod, sockets and old bearings......I seldom need a bike shop other than wheel trying and for suspension it's Jakes at Shockingly Good Bicycle Service

I am actually lucky enough to have moved to an area with not one, but two close by shops that are very different than each other but both awesome and already both helped me with separate issues.. the one is dunkeld cycles and the other is called sprocket and jack.

In Potch Le Tour Cycles for all your needs.

PedalWorks Somerset West. They rather repair than replace. My WTB rear hub failed a few weeks ago and recommendation by "a" bike shop on the trail was that the hub needs replacing. It actually only needed a proper service and nice new bearings.
