This thread got me off my butt to book my long overdue follow up with Richard Baxter

If you haven't gone yet, tell him I say hello.
He doesn't know who Frosty is, so it has to be G from GW (club).

Bike fit comes out of my pocket, physio is sponsored by medical aid...

Physio comes from my savings plan .... so still from my pocket ... :whistling:

Frankly .... rather a proper fit, and skip the physio AND still having to pay for the bike fit .... :stupid:

Went for a bike fit with Richard Baxter in JHB. Complete eye opener in terms of what I always thought looked at felt right.
I feel completely different and a lot more comfortable on the bike. definitely the most confident I’ve felt with the least money spent. What part can you buy for R900 that makes you comfortable and confident on a bike?

Looking forward to the weekend!

That is a really nice set up!

I have the same reaction from customers when I fit them - most think a fitting is a quick saddle height adjustment and job done.

Once you pull out the 3D infra red motion detection system and start talking lateral knee travel, vertical hip travel and ankling range they start to understand why it is money well spent.

R900 for a bike fit is absolutely the best upgrade you can make!

Nothing else in that price range will give you the extra performance that a good bike fit will.

Had my follow up fit done with Richard yesterday.

Since my initial setup with him I've changed ALL my contact points. You think you have the setup pretty much dialed in and only need minor tweaks, hell no. Everything was adjusted.

Now I need to cut my chimney, it was ok with only 2 short spacers on top, I could let it slide, but now it just looks ugly.

Went for my normal 1 hour ride this morning, it took a few km to get settled in but once I was it was so so comfortable. Looking forward to doing a multi hour ride to assess.

Any suggestions for cutting the chimney ? try to DIY or take it to a bike shop ? If I'm correct, although the forks are carbon the steerer is not.

Hi Guys

I am looking for a bike place or shop where i want a basic bike fit to be done. After about 30min my arms gets lame, sore/stiff neck and shoulders.

Budget bike fit will do as i am practising for Argus. I'm in Southern Suburbs, Cpt.

Anything from R200 up to R800 will do.

Thanks

Definitely worth the spend - lots of high tech gizmos and a good understanding of rider and of the anatomy. I'm made of spare parts with leg length discrepancies and legs too long for my body and arms even longer (orangutangs disease) ....

Provided that all these aspects are looked at I'd agree 100%

Otherwise the simple application of the Lemond Formula

lateral knee travel is an interesting one. In the past I've had this done and the correction caused more problems than just leaving it and addressing the issue with a muscle imbalance correction program.

PS : where is Matt Beers operating from these days?

I would take it to someone who will cut it to the correct length. If one cuts off too much, you have get a thinner spacer or another fork.
Not difficult if you have a jig and measure it correctly.

I only work on my bike where things are done often. I leave the one-offs for the guys that do it often.

It's aluminium I take it? Easy to diy. Pro tip, clamp the fork in an old stem to do a precise cut. You don't even need a fancy new hacksaw blade like you would with a carbon steerer.

Extra bonus tip, measure twice, then measure again. You can cut a piece off, but you can't cut a piece on.
