Chris Willemse Cycles: buy online, get previously opened package

12-speed Shimano chain arrives inside a resealed (with CycleLab sticker) plastic packet. Once opened, the cut is clearly visible. 🤔

I'm sure it's fine: the chain is coated in the usual sticky stuff. But I'd prefer to get my online orders packaged in unsealed original packaging. Come on CycleLab, you can do better than this.

I purchased 11spd Ultegra chain some time ago listed as OEM.

Detail made specific reference to the packaging and that it was not in original Shimano box.

Are you sure this wasn't the case with your purchase.? 🤷‍♂️

I don't mind the not-Shimano box, that's absolutely fine with me.

I do mind that the package had been cut opened and resealed. That's underhanded behaviour.

Why? Do you keep the packaging and put it on display on the shelf? It's an evidently unused chain, not underwear.

Hey, chains have all sorts of uses ... 😂

This happened to me with Assioma Uno pedals I bought from them. It was clearly fitted but could see it wasn’t used.

I brought it up with the manager, he apologized and replaced it with a brand new sealed replacement. But due to how they handled the situation and the manager sweetening the deal I opted to go for the Duo instead.. always a silver lining.. help the guys get better, complaining on the forum without first raising it with them doesn’t help anyone.

Problem is indecisive customers and or a poorly managed salesmen imo.

What exactly is underhanded behaviour about it? The chain is new and unused. The packing material could have been opened for any number of reasons.

An online transaction doesn't involve an indecisive customer or a poorly managed salesperson.

it does involve UNINFORMED customers though...

PS: not defending them perse...just saying.  And Also...those arent the cheapest prices for those in anycase. Lots of other places including sportmans warehouse (which certainly sell them in retail packaging) who are cheaper than CWC.

case and point:

https://www.summitbikes.co.za/index.php?id_product=1060&controller=product

R590 for the saem SLX 7100 chain in shimano boxes.

R745 vs R999 for the XT version.

I mean if you were informed you could get an XTR version for the price CWC charges for an XT version lol

No offense dude, but I’ve seen customers open stuff up in stores then put it back on the shelf. Similarly in my case, a customer bought the Uno and had it fitted in store. Once fitted he decided to buy Duo. After they removed it from his bike someone shelved it again and I bought it by a salesman that had no clue that it was opened or fitted before.

Humans F up everything, but also, the Human body is the worst place to store emotions.. wait, it’s the second worst place.. bikehub is definitely the worst place to store or share emotions..

I understand your gripe, but it still comes down to human error. There isn’t robots fulfilling your order directly from the suppliers production line.

Talk to the store to resolve, all parties can learn from this.

It's all about the price. If they charged full retail for a previously opened OEM bagged chain then yeah they're a bit dodgy and you can have a little hubmoan.

If you got a good discount for a chain taken off a bike or opened by a previous customer then all is fair.

As long as the chain is in unused and long enough (if removed from a bike) then win-win.
