Could be more carnage today. Hope not:

Dear riders, the last 50km of Stage 4 are basically a Tour de Obstacle: narrow roads, road furniture, speed bumps en lane squeezes. Ride smart. Stay upright. This isn’t Mario Kart!

This stage has MVDP written all over it

That final climb might be a bit too steep for his liking. average at 12%., more suited towards a WvA kind of rider or the GC men. It will be a select group that makes it to the end together.Β

But onky 800m long ... all pretty much Tour of Flanders work which suits both MVDP and WvA. The latter is more likely to have team responsibilities

With that sequence of climbs at then end, I'm going with Pogi to take the Win ahead of Vingegaard. MvdP close enough to retain Yellow.

I think Remco will also be in the mix, this is his kind of finish.Β

I was going to say - I'd love to see Wout win, but the terrain definitely doesn't rule out MvdP in my opinion. Its perfect for him and he has far fewer responsibilities (read: "GC men to protect") than Wout. A longish hard day followed by a bunch of short punchy climbs at the end? It's like Milan San Remo. I think there's a good chance of Poggi and MvDP dicing it out again, possibly with Jonas in the mix too.Β

Β Great finish to today’s stage,

Jonas passes his first test,

Pogi with TDF win #18

Remco gave a decent showing by leading the fight to regroupΒ

AGREED

As a big WvA fan, I am suspicious of his(Wout's) low profile approach currently.

.. start to show his colours towards the end of week 2, into week 3.

He was sick in the last week or two leading up to the Tour, given as the official reason for missing national champs. So if that's the case then potentially he's under the radar because he's not quite at 100% yet.

But I do think your theory of him saving himself for the second & third week has merit. He's proven to have more staying power over 3wks than MvdP so perhaps he's playing to his strengths.

Broken clock is correct twice a day.. ;)

Promise, it won't happen again though.Β

BTW. Remco is taking the Win in the TT tomorrow.Β

This ☝️ WVA came into the tour off the back of just being sick, he even missed the Belgium Road Champs the week before. Stage 2 Visma earmarked that stage for him but he let the team know he was not feeling good during the stage so Jonas had to go for it but MvdP ended up winning that day. Seems both UAE & Visma wanted the stage & yellow as early as Stage 2 already at least that's what they both stated in their post race interviews.

Stage 4 has the fire and intensity of a World Championship. Just beautiful racing.

Pogačar’s 100th professional victory. And a disappointed vd Poel, dreaming of winning in the maillot jaune. That front split was the top 1% of the top 1%. And the Dane looking combative and courageous.Β

Now for the race of truth over 34ish kilometres tomorrow. Who can unseat Remco? Maybe Campanaerts?Β
