Morning all,

Hope everyone is have a good start of the week,

I need some quick advice on a replacement chain for my 12speed MTB bike

I'm running sx chain at the moment and have got about 3000km on it... current wear is 0.5, so it's time for a replacement..

My options are sram gx chain or KMC x12 chain. I'm not sure which is the better chain to buy...I'm happy if the new chain last 3000km plus as well.

Need your thoughts and advice. Setup is SX deraileur and SRAM cassette

I got almost 3000km on a GX chain on my Sram GX setup and am now at 12000km on an XX1 so I wouldn't hesitate to buy another XX!1 chain.

Ive put a replacement KMC onto my road 10 Sp Ultegra and find it noisier than a Shimano OEM chain.

Both are good, but to me KMC is the better longevity choice (and better price too, I'd imagine)

If your front chain ring is stuffed, that'll shorten the life span of a chain too

Keep the whole drive train clean and lubed and it'll last longer

XX1 is good but not that good. With me (82kg) they last ~3.5k km before hitting 0.5 stretch.

GX and XT chains for my typically last 2.5k km

At worst I’ve got 4400 out of a XX1 chain. At best 6500.
no other chain has come close not even half as far

That is useful 👏

I have tended to use Chorus 11s chains on pretty much everything, with good results, until the Rand took a nosedive. Black Friday this year has brought a whole lot of KMC chains into my life at basement prices (25-30% of the cost of Campy options) so I guess I will see how they perform.

replaced 6 chains and 1 cassette in one go last week. my maintenance budget is blown.
