ANOTHER great morning at FUN Gaalen....

I think it could very well have been the last of the "not so bad" mornings as far as the cold goes..

soon, all sunrise starts will be cold AF.

Not many people are aware that the trails at VG cross around 35 properties... it's a real privilege to have the permission of the farmers/land owners to be able to ride here.

Then came the day of climbing, this is just outside Pilgrims next to the Blyde River, nearing the base of the climb, the radio tower way back there was the goal

No photos inbetween as I was bleeding from the eyes for most of the grind. Pro-tip, gravel bikes are not designed for epic off road, loose rocky, steep gradient climbs, but who cares! I made it to the top!

And the views were absolutely worth it

And I couldn't resist this awesome autumn scene either!

That was fun, 68km, 1800m climbing. Good, good day! Apart from the descending, the gravel bike was absolutely perfect for this whole trip. Awesome machine!

Fantastic ride.

I agree about the limitations of these bikes, but I really enjoy mine. Opens many more roads to explore

For some a 15km ride is hardly worth a mention.  For me it is my new "longest ride" after a 20 year absence to this lovely sport.  And doing it in 1 hour 4 minutes is a very happy moment !!

Arthritic knees cant put down the power, so I am running low gears and spinning like crazy.  After about 8,8 km there was a nasty little climb, about 400m in length, many walked it ...

Went for the granny gear, took a time trial position, and SPUN up that hill .... was seriously short of breath at the top, but did not walk it.   Last 100m my hart rate was over 160bpm.

To an event where the result and time was less important than the fact that my grandsons and my family were there to watch me do what I love!

Nice seeing Frosty there [emoji41]
