Anyone else on the fence about entering for next year's event?

Seems a bit strange that there is no option of tented accommodation at or near the start venue, as with the Prince George and so many others.

Most people just stay in the town and cycle in to the start venue, nice 10km warmup.

I've got unfinished business to get my Ratel. Did 2009,2010,2011 and 2018. I recall my fastest was just under 9 hours, so not fast by any stretch of the imagination. If I can get my winter training going properly I'd like to give it a proper go next year to tick that ratel off my list.

Problem is once you get your Ratel you have to do another one to actually do the race with your black number board, otherwise what is the point 😁

But yes - Ratel is a proud achievement to tick off.

Well, entered for my first one, will worry about accommodation later.

Better do some heat training this Dec just in case :)

Also took the plunge last night and entered.

Guess I'll have no beer and Christmas puddings this December...🤣

Jup, excellent motivation to not pick up as much weight as last year, plus doing the Rapha500 and Versus Back2Base.

if you entered before end of June the fee was R1,750 which is still too expensive but at least a substantial discount on the current fee (and late fee of R2,700). Add fuel & accommodation & vehicle transfer you move in to stage race cost territory unless you can do it in a group.

It was at R1750 until yesterday. At least it includes socks and finishers t-shirt...

I've heard positive things about the Dryland events, so I figure I might as well try it once and see what the fuss is about, same with the Prince George (though that works out much less thanks to the Black Friday special).

spending 6k plus for Attakwas is nuts.

I've done a few and to be honest, I find the ride pretty uninspiring and boring.

It's a slog and the views from the top are fleeting.

Last one was pre covid, before I realised that suffering and slogging and doing long stuff for that sake of it means you have been drinking way too much of the coolaid.

Spending 6 to 7 hours on the bike is too long to be fun and not long enough to be an adventure.

For that price you could do something really cool like cross cape or Freedom Circuit

But it's a strange, boring 'tweener event that has little appeal to an old cynical idiot like me

I'll stop now

Enjoy everyone!

I entered early and got the entry at 1750 and on top of that I took the lay bye option, think its like R180 a month. Found accommodation in George for like R500 for the Friday. My wife is going with so no shuttle issues and we making a trip of it. Not sure if we will travel home straight after or stay over.

Im finding it reasonable.
