Brettowski Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Three months ago, "The Conqueror" and I embarked on an extraordinary journey, diving into the art of off-road triking. Together, we’ve navigated the challenges of hemiplegia caused by a stroke, rediscovered the beauty of nature, and reignited my passion for biking. Let’s rewind to October 12, 2024: while on a business trip to Johannesburg, a severe stroke changed everything. It stole my health, my outdoor adventures, and my beloved mountain biking. Over the past year, I’ve endured daily physiotherapy, ongoing treatments, and the delicate dance of balancing work and life. Yet, the yearning to ride again never faded. After months of research, I found the perfect solution—a custom trike from AZUB in the Czech Republic. Their craftsmanship and support have been exceptional, and my trike, the only one of its kind in South Africa, has sparked plenty of curiosity on the trails. To date, I’ve covered 560km, tackling trails, jeep tracks, and dirt roads. The next big adventure? The Cape Town Cycle Tour—an event I’m counting down the days to. Every ride feels like reclaiming a piece of myself, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next! 🚴♂️✨ Thomo, andreas17777, christinejvr and 31 others 30 4
madmarc Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Vry cool and great to see you out on a bike after a stroke. I used to follow a guy on FB in USA that builds MTB trikes - No welding - Uses Al pipe and handle bar stems to assemble them - His last build was an E-Trike - did really cool work, but then he disappeared havnt seen any posts from him this last year

tinmug Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Epic. Go out there and make it happen. Huge respect to you. 👏
BuffsVintageBikes Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Outstanding. Once this sport is in your bloody it becomes part of your DNA. Wonderful to see you enjoying your freedom once again 🤙
RocknRolla Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 You, Sir, are inspirational. I take my hat off to you!
mazambaan Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Very inspirational and I can just imagine the willpower and effort needed to get to where you are now; long may it continue. A slightly personal query; did you have any indications of the stroke beforehand?
Brettowski Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 thx, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol 10 days prior... then boom... mazambaan 1

Valdi Pereira Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 This post has given me reason to stop and reflect for a few minutes. My wife and I have been cycling for 25 years. During this time, I’ve had to give myself the odd mental ARK (Attitude Readjustment Klap). It’s easy to lose perspective. The need to side-step the criminal element and dodge maniacal drivers (to name but a few issues) can chip away at your enjoyment. If you let the ‘issues’ become the focus it can soon become a chore/drag and then its downhill (not in the good sense). Being able to cycle is a great opportunity/privilege. More so if you are able to participate in events around the country and take in the surroundings. I’m certainly guilty of losing sight of this from time to time. I really hope you go from strength to strength and bounce back as far as possible. Good luck with the Argus/CTCC, if I happen to spot you – your rig looks pretty unique – I’ll be sure to say hello. christinejvr, ChrisF and LukeLan 3
