As 2024 draws to a close, let’s take a look back at the year on Bike Hub. Our Quarterly reviews have shown that demand is stabilising across categories, indicating that the Covid-induced supply chain crisis is resolving. Against this backdrop, we’ve seen positive growth in website usage and marketplace activity, particularly in the gravel and e-bike categories. Here’s a look at the key moments and trends that defined 2024. Headline Statistics Classifieds Activity A monumental R249 million in sales was proactively confirmed by users—that’s over R20 million a month. This is even more impressive considering the actual number (including unreported […]

Interesting stats.

Whats also interesting is that this was posted 5 hours ago and I am the first to respond.

It’s because nobody really cares about these stats. The only stats that matter on bikehub are the ones which prove who was talking the most k@k during the year 😊…thats what we are waiting to see.

my bet is on @ChrisF again😅

Pyga's drop in searches (and Titan's rise) is interesting to me

Two different categories really, one is a cache brand while the other serves a broader market and product offering. Interestingly one of Titan’s lead designers worked with Pyga originally.

There is a lesson though, despite having a strong support base of loyal users. Almost nil marketing, which for a boutique brand is dangerously risky.

Imho, if Pyga reintroduced their alloy hardtail, plus launched a revamped more basic spec 110 (call it the 120). Add to that a mid-range/spec alloy gravel option. They could see a healthy return with more interest and more support from their existing customer base.

This. They are pricing themselves out of the local market a bit and i think it’s purely based on perception. There is money here. People pay stupid money for desirable bikes…and there lies the rub.

Maybe they dont care…but the prices of their alloy frames rival some exotic carbon versions…and unless you are a die hard fan…choosing between a relatively ‘vanilla’ Pyga branded bike and something more exotic is not a hard choice for many…even though the pyga will cone with epic local support. I think thats why they also don’t hold second hand value that great.

And I say this as the owner of a 2024 v2 hyrax which i picked up on here for nearly half price for the wife. I built it up into a superbike and damn are they awesome bikes. Well built, reliable, versatile, ride great etc…i just think they are not playing the marketing game right when it comes to selling themselves as a niche, cool local mtb brand.

Look at any other foreign boutique brand out there…they flog the cool, upstart factor hard, as they should, they dont have the brand loyalty of the cookie cutter brands (spez, trek, giant etc). They need to be cooler than those brands…so that suckers like me who likes having weird things fall for it.

Pyga, we need you to try harder please. Be a cool mtb brand again, do something!

The increase in gravel bike classifieds is great news, but seems to be new activity rather than the decline of other bike types i.e dual sus MTB only down 7%, not sure you can count hardtail MTB as its a lower LSM completely.
