I got 74km/h on my gravel bike at CTCT, running 47mm tyres and a 1x setup shimano 105 Di2.
44 at the front.

That is, to me, more than enough on a GB.
I suppose it will depend on what type of cadence you can do.........

That said, you wont stay long on these types of speeds riding gravel.  Maybe club road rides around 40 yes......

A spinnekop has 8 legs!

Most Switch models are offered in two colours, it is only the Carbon Pro and Limited Edition models that come in one colour only. Your local Titan Racing dealer will most likely be more than willing to swap out parts or a frame for you.

I might be a bit unkind to the colour (have not seen it in the flesh) and it could be that the general photos out there do not do it any favours

So much boxes to tick, when you only have one real option, get a hardtail carbon MTB (29er).

Max chainring usually your problem there. If its not then the terrain is probably rough enough to warrant an mtb anyway.

There are non-tarmac races where you cannot compete with a mountain bike

I "need" a gravel bike...
Not like in need it to survive a cold winter night, but I have some personal ambitions (strawberry blondes excluded) for which I require a gravel 'racing' bike.

Some requirements:

  • Must be able to fit 50mm tyres. I'm firm on this one, so no 47mm clearance. Yeah I share views with a certain Dylan Johnson.
  • I do not want to go to 650B to fit 50m. Very firm on this
  • Prefer Shimano to SRAM
  • Not really considering Cromoly/ Alumimium / Titanium frames, so carbon it'll be.
  • No need for fenders
  • No need to add a Venter trailer masquerading as bags/panniers/etc
  • FutureShocks, Pivot points, front shocks, suspension stems & seatposts... All sounds like something that can break, and add weight.

I have looked at Trek, @Titan Racing Bikes, Scott so far.
I was tempted to look at a Felt, but seems like the distributors went belly up (again!)

So any suggestions?

Specialized Crux comp. With shimano GRX 1x12 and upgrade the wheels.

I’ve been riding my crux for 2 years and it’s flawless. I currently have a 2.2 mtb tyre on the front and a 47 on the rear. Not many gravel bikes have that kind of clearance. It’s also incredibly light. My girlfriend has the crux comp and it comes in very competitively weight wise with my sworks when we swap the wheels to carbon hoops. It sets you back about R75 000, if you are interested you can reply to one of my ads and I’ll see if I can help you out.

@'Kaze Pete very few bikes available in SA are going to, on paper, clear 50mm.
many that say 45mm, will do 50.
Sofia Gomez ran a 2.2" up front on her Crux recently. she had a new tracer at the back (not sure if it was 45 or 50). The bike is specced for 47mm if i recall correctly

if you're on the lighter side, stump up for a Specialized Crux Comp, otherwise these would be my choices, size depending:

If you were considering something more relaxed, the Cube nuroad C62 and Merida Silex 7000 would be top of my list.
but hell, Mohoric won gravel worlds on a Silex, so it can't be that "unracy"

I’ve had a crux the last two years (still have it and planning to race Gravel SA’s on it in the next couple of weeks), excellent bike, but stiff AF (I also have 45mm wheels that probably doesn’t help), so when it gets rough and corrugated, the bike goes backwards. There has been days when I regretted not having a heavier more compliant bike, but more often than not I love this bike
