Now hoping those final dots can make the cut. Personally watching Boetie Hugo, will be tight.

Eish 50km in 3h is pushing it at this stage. They really need to leave Ceres asap

Sorry Chris, missed that one. The tracking still shows some riders not at the finish, but with no updates for hours. So not sure.

I noticed one of the riders that Scratched is Gary Kirsten, anyone know if this is the same Former Proteas Cricket Player?

From recollection, yes that's him. I think he completed last year?

Not saying it is the case with Gary but seems like a lot of riders suffered with the heat and tailwind not cooling them down over the 1st 24 hours or so.

Have also heard of more than normal stomach issues later.

Riders also had varying weather conditions over the 5 days with some having quite good weather throughout(front runners) and mid to back of the field being caught in hailstorms, rain and heat with headwinds later.

I got a similar feeling following the many updates from the course. I reckon the wind in the Tankwa was brutal on Saturday. That 70km stretch from Da Doer to Ceres can be a real beach with a block headwind going straight up towards Calvinia, up a gradual incline (2-3%) on terrible corrugations and with the small matter of about 900km in the legs.

That hail storm outside of Fraserburg reminded me of a similar hail storm I encountered in 2022 just outside of Britstown. Nowhere to hide with lightning flashing all around and hail coming in sideways. I was prepared to meet my Maker that day. Man… memories…

This is the hardest 6 hours I've ever had on a bike. I didn't realise that matroosberg was waiting as the sting in the tail - so basically I thought everything was going to be OK when I hit the tar. The climb that revealed itself shortly thereafter stretched my zen somewhat.

I’m not ashamed to admit I walked up Swaarmoed…
