Talking about 14th March 2027...

Say that I wanted to try out this CTCT thing.

Where is the best area to stay that is slightly out of the carnage of central Cape Town / Sea Point / Greenpoint and would allow a simple ride in to the start and back to accommodation afterwards?

Not scared to have a good day out, so 20km ish "warmup" and 20km ish  "cooldown" would be ok.

But for a country bumpkin what area / routes to the start offer the least traffic / chance of getting mugged / lost etc please?

I'll be on an MTB -maybe try fit in some of the gravel / trails that go around table mountain?

Thanks in advance.

From a local looking in, and interacting with upcountry visitors.

The ride to the start and back from the finish is the least of it ....

The ligistics of visiting the Expo ... sure there are bike parks.

The logistics of getting in and out to join a Saturday ride.

The logistics of finding a spot with safe parking for your trailer and car ....

A spot that has accommodation for your bike(s)

These ladies have done a couple .... way past 60 entries in their group.  They have some excellent experience

One thing that they can Throw-in as a package deal is the Photos like Ridejoburg.

Yes, many event do now ....

But seems Artificial Idiocy has Absolutely Irrivocably filtered our photos to nothing .... jokes aside, they properly messed this part up

Thanks in advance - road tripping with little kids though the Karoo to arrive 2-3 days before so own car but it seems the main challenges of this race are surviving registration / expo, getting to your batch to start and not getting kamikazied by a rogue ebiker 🤣

Latch up with me ... I keep the other ebikers from you ...

Parking is the issue .... very close accommodation, walking distance is possible .... simplifies your trip greatly

Expo .... the Hub is the Hub 🤣  the Expo CAN be a very nice experience ..

Getting to the statt .... ideal is some 30 minutes .... REALITY .... blithering infividuals rocking up 2 hours early, then causing a huge congestion at the gates .... plan for 45 minutes.

The second part ….

Can never understand this, why do people do this ? They just hold up those starting earlier - utterly ridiculous!

Yes... like @ChrisF said:

We are part of the sort of famous "Potch train".

Accommodation for next year already booked, in Greenpoint. It can be really quiet regarding traffic and tourists if you get a nice place.

It is very important to book NOW! Doesn't matter where you want to stay. More and better options and economically also a lot better.

The options that @NC_lurker mentioned is very bakgat, give that some serious thought as well.

We usually go with a bakkie and a trailer, which need some space. And for the whole weekend that bakkie stay right where we parked it on Friday morning. Either we walk were we want to be or we get ushered away to some amazing places by @ChrisF and his wonderful wife, Greta.

Feel welcome to ask again if you need more info or ideas.

If you are comfortable with it, travelling in the wee hours is much more survivable with little kids. When they sleep the wheels roll much easier.

Agreed, and the further back you start the worse it is

For years we drove in from Tokai, parked at the parking lot next to 3 anchor bay. But since Covid we have stayed in and around green point/Mouille point. Nothing beats being in bed at the time when we would have had to leave to Tokai to make it to the parking lot on time to get a space. Logistics are much easier. We also walked to the expo this year, as parking is ALWAYS a nightmare, made worse by the open field next to the stadium becoming a hotel now.

The two year old is currently one of those rare small creatures that DOESN'T sleep in the car so we're going to have to split the trip over three days to maintain sanity haha.

Hopefully she changes by next year...

Rescue Remedy - a drop or two for everyone in the car goes a long way. Don't ask me what it is or how it works, but it made traveling with kids possible for us - and I never tested positive for a performance enhancing drug - yes, I know it is because they never test the 6 793rd finisher...... ha ha.

Accommodation hopefully booked in Three Anchor Bay - thanks for the recommendations.

Asking for a friend...does anyone ride the race route with a little detour to do the full Mast Climb in Tokai for fun?

Not going to be fast on the MTB anyway so may as well do extra some cool stuff...my friend says 🤣

This year's was (officially) the 48th, thanks to the cancelled one.

But you still HAVE to make a plan ;)
