Is it Friday yet?

I know I'm old/er and into vintage bikes but I still appreciate the form and function of a well made carbon bike or quality piece of cycling equipment.

However, one of the things that really grates my nerves is this industry drive to make hubs as loud as possible. I was recently sitting in a bunch, trying to have a conversation with the rider next to me and the rider in front of me had a hub so loud that couldn't hear the oke next to me. I eventually just asked him to at least soft pedal rather than freewheel because he was making a bloody racket.

Gees Louise, when is loud, loud enough? Some of these things are just a total bloody irritation. Granted, some are louder than normal but actually sound pretty good.
A mate has a set of Industry 9 Hydras on his MTB and those things sound sweet AF, probably because they remind me of my fishing reel when I get hit by a bus of a steenbras 😄

Am I alone in feeling this way or is my age catching up on me?

Have you thought that it may be your hearing?  #justsaying. Will leave now.

Age is not for the feinthearted :-).

I do like a set of Hopes but they are loud. New multi point engagement ones sound like buzzing bees.

That wouldn't explain why I can hear the bloody hub so well 😄

Just move to the front of the bunch and keep it on the gass so that they are unable to freewheel ;)

campag hubs on the road, chris king in the mountain.... music to my ears

I remembered ringle hubs from many moons ago, they were so loud they scared bambi away, but i loved the sound. these days you get hubs that are a bit to loud and very annoying.

Jeepers my new bikes hub is super loud and bit irritating... am I old now? Is this midlife?

Are you old enough to worry about your knees kreeking louder than the bike ?

There is safety in sound and also, if you try jump, the whole peloton can hear you coming. Actually a lot of the more premium smaller brands are not actually loud. They are making stealth silent rollers. It’s all in the Freehub, you can master your audio.🤓🤭
