Just got back from GK. Big hole in the fence just before marker 10D. Thats as you come out of the singletrack and ride next to Nelson Mandela drive.

Reported it at the office but nobody seemed too stressed.

SloSilver, please can you contact Amelia De Ridder (0828242182 ameliadr@rekord.co.za) from the Rekord news paper, they want to get all the detail, and anyone that was attacked during the last month near Botha Ln. She want to do an article on the incidents, it will create some awareness and maybe we can get more police patrols in those areas. Regards

Heard from a colleague there was a pretty violent attack on a mtb'er in Groenkloof or fountains this weekend.

 

Bike not taken, just belongings.

More like EVERY DAY.

 

Sadly this "element" has now taken Groenies over and all the talk and no action means it is not safe there anymore.

 

I read it was an overseas visitor the got mugged.  Fountains side is now closed? for MTBing

Me and a mate cycle to Rosemary Hill from the Silver Lakes area almost every weekend and have never had any issues there.  We pass a few people on the gravel roads and have never felt threatened - but we do stay alert.  No issues at Rosemary Hill either.

things are not well at Groenkloof at all.... in Friday's Pretoria News is an article about corruption and all kinds of tensions in management at Groenies.... no wonder it's going like it is.

One thing I will never do again is go cycling in that area after work. Took the GS out one afternoon to shoot a sunset.

The number of Taxi's on those roads (gravel roads) were insane! They all pick that route as a semi direct route to Mamelodi.

Just had news of another attack on Cornwall Hill yesterday evening at around 5 to 5.30. Cyclist knocked off his bike by 5 black men armed with knives.

Tied him up with wire after roughing him up a bit. Took his bike and cell phone and left him tied up. Reported missing and eventually found, tied up and lying in the bushes, at around 7.30. Taken to hospital by ambulance. Seems to have happened just below the reservoir opposite Cornwall Hill. This shouldn't happen but rather stupid to cycle there alone at that time of day.

Always problems at Cornwall hill area. stay of the single roads if you are alone.

Very glad to hear that he is ok. It saddensme that it has become so dangerous to cycle alone, to find someone to cycle with all the time is not always possible, with the results in staying at home or when out cycling you never relax and clear your mind.
