Wow thanks so much man. Looking to get the little man of the balance onto something that will last a while. He turned 3 in Feb so I think he will be ready for a peddle bike soon. Jeez but I am lost in the bmx world. I guess the mini might do the ajob? What is a reasonable price looking at 2nd hand. A Haro or bmx or just first getting on a normal avalance or something similar for a bit cheaper? Here on the platteland there are no bmx tracks or similar to look or test. Can the wheels take proper tubes/tubeless to ride of the tarmac? Any advice appreciated. Muchos gratchos.

My little guy moved to a mini at 5 but he is pretty tall. You might be able to get a second hand micro from around R4000. Sometimes one will come up for sale at R3000. The more equipped race bikes with carbon bits will start at around R6000 second hand and can go up to R20000.

I think the FreeAgent guys still have new Micros for R5000.

There are a few 18 inch micros floating around but they are very scarce and tyres and tubes are very limited in SA.

Tubeless is not yet mainstream in BMX. Some pros are testing right now. BMX bikes are pure race bikes so they run very high pressures when racing very much like road bikes. Around 6-9 bar. The tyres are very similar to road tyres in tread pattern. Like I said in a previous post, I have seen roadies use BMX bikes to get their little ones riding in a more “race” position. The cheap mountain bikes have the kids riding very upright and the cranks are stupid short so they tend to spin out very quickly once they have momentum.

My son has done the Rietvlei yellow trails with me on his BMX. The bike is quite a few kg’s lighter than the Muna 14 inch we initially got him when he transitioned to pedals.

Someone got hold of me and this is on the way for Kittel!! Will tell him it’s the Giro bike. If he doesn’t buy it then I will have to chat to bogus!! And somE gravel drop bars are on their way!!

awesome!!!

FYI, i did my own spray job using the top of the range Rustoleum spray and coat. it's obviously not a bogus level but you've got bigger issues coming up if Kittel can tell the difference.

Awesome weekend in Durban for BMX Nationals. I don't understand why we all shove our kids onto Mountain bikes and bypass this discipline. A discipline where they will learn and carry core skills with them onto everything with 2 wheels for life. 89f2fbfb7affeb673cc8bbc3319bb5c6.jpg4415875fcf32d1ea20a2875dba9c761a.jpg

Probably because the barrier to entry is too high, does Giant, Spez or Scott bring in BMX, no. Therefore they are not readily available for the public to purchase. Even buying a decent kids bike is tough in SA.

I also don't know how Spez get away with selling that hunk of lead to kids. I have seen mothers at the bike park struggling to lift the thing into their Range Rovers.

I bought this for my son not sure on the weight though. 12" was too small 16" too big. Was the only decent one i could find. I didnt purchase from Sportmans warehouse but I see it is available there. I got mine at Solomons

Bought my son the 20'' version of that bike 2 years back. Crap that thing is heavy, and my son never showed any enthusiasm for cycling using that hunk of metal.

Picked up a second-hand Titan Hades for cheap before the weekend just so that my son could have something more ridable when playing with his friends - suddenly he is a new child - can't separate him from his bicycle!

Man I feel like a horrible parent for forcing him to ride that thing for 2 years

Yeah, people think I am crazy spending 3,2k on a kids bike. Yet Kittel took 15 minutes to start pedaling, his friends have heavy spez and Muna which they hardly ride.

They will rather wait to have a turn on Kittels Bike.
