Agree and disagree, at least something is in place. Hopefully it work with some sort of accuracy to be usefull.
Last year my mate did Ironman in PE the week before CTCT, the Ironman app allowed me to track him the entire time even though he was not carrying a phone or using a Garmin. I'm guessing it also used some sort of predictive algorithm to estimate where he was.
Oh and Garmin Live Track relies on connection to your phone, so you would need to carry both.

Megan, once you have that new front light, please consider using it everytime you ride on the road, regardless of ambient light at the time.
Day 2, another 1h24m of run time, still on 80%.
The screen seems to be slowly getting better, maybe some heat from the sun will sort it out properly.
Lets just say I'm rather chuffed with the new battery, no more daily charging and "range anxiety" like i used to have.
theres an idea.
most (if not all) these devices get charged via usb, so if one could utilise internal cable routing to a central point connecting to a compact usb hub that can then either be connected to a power bank for mobile charging or external usb charger for "docked" charging.
currently i have a charging station setup in a drawer beside the bed, 1 usb cable supplying power to a usb hub inside the drawer, from there each device has a self retracting usb cable, but if this could all be done on the bike whilst stored in the garage that would be awesome.

I know what I know and i have become a lot less confident of others abilties around me and also the chances of things going pear shaped - it happens more than you think. Rather be in a place where you have a gap to react, than asking WTF happened.
Statistics are a horrible thing - the longer you go without a major crash the higher the likelihood is of it happening. Every now and then the horns and tail comes out and I am flying down a hill cause i love decsending and fancy myself as being able to go fast downhill. I quickly seem to pull the brakes as the edge isnt really that interesting any more - if it goes wrong it could have some mortal consequences.
I often get asked what my fastest speed i've seen on my bike, back when I was young and dumb and full on invincibility riding a steel frame with 19mm tyres I hit some crazy speeds, these days I'm a good 20km/h slower, not because I cant physically go faster, but because I cant mentally let myself go faster.

i.e. dont pop a wheelie over the finish line because your tjip wont be aligned

1) yeah right, when ? They've been Timing 947 for the last 2 years already.
2) hopefully the children that designed the interface have developed some new skills by now and will improve it drastically in the next version.

Group came out of the bushes with guns, but no shots fired.
Second hand info from a friend that was in the group. Apparently just a couple of minutes ahead of the BL group.
That BL group would have been our faster of the 2 groups, I was in the second BL group

many years ago when we first started doing "the august" , 2 or 3 pink buses would pull into Fish Hoek over the same weekend. These buses were full of Swedish (at least I seem to recall them being swedish) students on some sort of back packing holiday.
It sure was a sight to behold
34 minutes ago, Shebeen said:ja, you may well be right. but. the motorbike group claim they were not doing that. I don't find it implausible that the cyclist took the tight corner wide whilst going downhill. Either way, someone is not telling the truth.
Neither you nor I were there. If that eyewitness makes a solid statement to police then it would be hard to ignore. I'm guessing there could be enough evidence on the tarmac and resting place of vehicles, bodies and parts for a forensic expert to work it out without conflicting eyewitness reports.
There was an incident recently in silvermine. Dog got run over by sanparks vehicle. eyewitness (dog walker) claimed it was reckless and killed the dog. Owner not there and kicked up a huge fuss about negligence, understandably people get very emotional when someone's pet has died so pitchforks were sharpened quickly. Sanparks looked into it, vehicle travelling 8km/h according to GPS when passing. Turns out the dog was quite old, so maybe just got a fright and that was the end. but the pitchfork brigade now saying that clearly Sanparks manipulated GPS data to absolve themselves (but seemingly don't have a report from vet or blood/injuries anywhere). That's my roundabout way of asking, do motorbikes often have GPS trackers on them, either for sport or theft tracking? That would be a reliable way to find out who is talking porkies about the incident.
doubt a motorbike of that age would have a tracker in it, there is a much better chance that the cyclist had some sort of GPS device tracking his ride. Also someone mentioned it was an ebike
3 minutes ago, DieselnDust said:Let us know if the screen issue clears up or not. Do you think it’s just due to handing it too much or could it be a sector not getting the right voltage?
I think its how I lifted the screen off the casing, I may have partly separated the electronics from the LCD. Because when it was apart, if you push on that area the discoloration shifts.
In the dark, with the back light on, it made that corner hard to see, but once there was sunlight around it was not an issue.
first test this morning, 1h27m run time.
Everything appeared to work as it should, and only 10% battery drop as opposed to the 50-60% drop I was getting out of the battery that I took out.
So far so good.
Has anyone heard any more info on the bike jacking this morning on Rondebuilt Rd Boksburg, close to the sink hole ?
We were on route, pretty close by, when some cyclists came from the opposite direction and warned us, so we decided to rather turn around and ride a different route.

Hahaha, not so certain.
The bottom of the screen now has some discoloration, but I can live with that.
3 hours ago, DieselnDust said:No one driver or motorcyclist adheres to it. That speed is sufficiently slow to demand all traffic only crawl up slowly. But every day it’s a race track with motorists forcing cyclists against the wall.
but remember to ride singlefile because not adhering to that Karen interpretation of the law makes you the biggest most vilified criminal in the world
I had a few words with some guys on twitter earlier today who seemed to think cyclists on chappies feel entitled and should go and ride somewhere else, I gave up very soon as it was the usual rhetoric and I did not feel like getting agitated.

Maybe try to hard reset it?
Check the edit, sorted.
I broke it.
stays on wait for gps, doesn’t seem to be picking up signal.
opened it up again but can’t see anything obvious.
eish!!!!
edit.
its working.
it seems to be that the aerial for the gps runs around the casing of the garmin, these connect with little connectors to the pc board. But when I put the board back the wires from the battery prevented the board going down all the way, this means the aerial was not connecting.
as soon as I rerouted the wires and fastened the board all the way down it picked up signal.

Racetec did provide "live" tracking for a few years, but it didnt last long and I'm not to sure how well it worked as I never used it.
