  1. Nothing wrong with the SB Stride if your son wants to commute between school and home, but if he wants to join his buddies doing some xc or mountain biking, or the occasional race, that Strides going to slow him down. That thing must weigh a ton. Establish your son's application, and base your purchase on the outcome. R2000 does not buy a lot of bike , and some people spend that on handlebars, so if you can reach a bit deeper in those pockets, rather invest in a proper entry level bike such as a Merida Matts for around R4K. Keep some cash left for kit, cause he will also need a helmet (R250 - R500), proper shoes (starting at R500), gloves (R75 - R150), and cycling clothing. Good luck with your purchase!
  2. The new XTR is up there with XX, and the new XT can easily be compared with X0. Don't be misled by pricing, cause the one is bought with Dollars and the other one with Yen.
  3. Also read the article in Die Burger. Tim did however acknowledge that his wife was wearing one!
  4. If you wanna have a care-free mtb experience, fill your tyres/tubes with Sludge Uni Seal....made in SA for SA conditions.
  5. The Edge 500 is a great device, far better than the aged 305 unit, but the Edge 800 is the bees knees! Recently upgrade, but kept 500 for race day, especially mtbiking, cause I don't think the 800 was made for vigorous riding.
  6. This sounds more like a bad connection in the wire, breaking the current with some movement . Have the faulty wire replaced by the LBS, or while they at it, let them replace the entire unit, cause it is still new. For wheel flex to cause this, the rims must be made of candy floss!
  7. There is a few models, but expect to pay in the region of R800 for a decent one.
  8. I concur with the Lezyne proposal! Had one of those Giant Tower pumps, what a waste of time. Got a Lezyne with high pressure barrel, which can seat a tubeless tyre on the rim with very little efford. IMO well worth the extra bucks.
  9. There is a second hand one in classifieds, but that one is unfortunately priceless!
  10. Dude, 29er's are imo better than 26ers', but that's about it. Use the same tyre combo's, the same lube, drink the same energy drink, wear the same kit, etc. as you would have done with any other bike with smaller wheels! They are not from another planet, just better!
  11. Sorry
  12. 99% of the time if a new chain snapps, it is caused by poor fitment. I think your pinn was not inserted correctly.
  13. If your pockets are deep enough, and you can pull out about R3K odd, get these! S -mtb.bmp
  14. Another hubber short of cash to upgrade!
  15. Used Axe while riding my mtb 26er, but changed to Speed Stick after getting my 29er.... works better!
  16. Ask MTB Roadie, his got one, or just wait till he loggs in, he will give you a review once he spots this thread. He is mad about his bike! Good looking steed!
  17. I have heard some very good stuff about the Bulls frames, but have no personal experience with them. I've got a Stumpjumper S-Works 29er HT, that is giving me all the pleasure I can handle, but maybe a little over your price point (they go for about R26 000 - frame, fork and seatpost). Why not test the Stumpjumper Expert?

If it says S-Works on the item, you can buy it with confidence, cause it will not let you down. My other label of choice is Assos!
  20. S3, only if you fit the wheels of the R3.
  21. I've got the Spez S-Works Prevail, super light at 184g, and super comfy. After my first ride, I forgot to take my helmet off, and only noticed when I saw myself in the mirror! I train with an Ionos, which is a great lid, but lately it feels like a brick on my head after getting the Prevail.
  22. Magic Shine MJ870 (1200 lumen), retails for R1300. Four light settings, and four battery level indicator colours at the back. Can switch between bright and dim with a dual switch, no need to put the light off like a MJ808. I use mine mostly on the dimmest setting, otherwise motorists flash their headlights at me, or I blind other trail users. Standard battey gives me about 5-6 hours, and the endurance battery 6-8 hours.
  23. I used Chain L for a while, not a bad lube, but too sticky in my opinion, and also too messy. Once you lube and wipe, everything is covered in oil for a few rides, so prepare yourself for a rim and rear tyre clean after every ride. This is just my opinion, but what made me change was the motor oil smell and the bland branding, as if the label was made on a Xerox copier. Maybe I am just sceptical, so not really my intention to give this product a bad review. I would however like to conclude with one word....Motorex!
  24. Going to test the waters in CAT2.
  25. Good looking wheels Johan. I see that you are getting your stallion ready for the Pro Classics Spring Season!
