  1. https://bikenetwork.co.za/western-cape-enduro-its-back/ 5 stages of Jonkershoek will be a big day out.
  2. Where do you live that couriers take that long? Oh wait, Gauteng. That's weird. Turn around time for stuff sent to RBC has always been a week from Somerset West. I used to have an X fusion Manic, and it also developed some play over time, but that 2mm sounds fine. A service won't be amiss. But there is no reason why Cogent can't do it if they can get the service kit. Or yourself for that matter if you are the DIY type.
  3. Kief! Having gone through a gamut of crutches in our family, we've ended up putting road bike grip tape on crutches. You can build it up for larger hands or heavier upper bodies. But this is a much neater solution. Will keep it in mind.
  4. Technically, if I understand it correctly, the murder of Wilson doesn't qualify as a capital offence. I'm no legal eagle, this is from Wiki. Under Texas statutes, a murder is capital if the offender:[17] Murders a peace officer or fireman who is acting in the lawful discharge of an official duty, and who the person knows is a peace officer or fireman. (There have been bills proposed to add EMT/paramedics to this list.) Intentionally commits the murder in the course of committing or attempting to commit aggravated kidnapping, burglary, robbery, aggravated sexual assault, arson, obstruction or retaliation, or terroristic threat. Commits the murder for remuneration or the promise of remuneration, or employs another to commit the murder for remuneration or the promise of remuneration. Commits the murder while escaping or attempting to escape from a penal institution. Commits the murder, while incarcerated, of a person who is employed in the operation of the penal institution. Commits the murder, while incarcerated, with the intent to establish, maintain, or participate in a combination or in the profits of a combination, with a "combination" defined as "five or more persons who collaborate in carrying on criminal activities."[18] Commits the murder while incarcerated for murder; or while serving a sentence of life imprisonment or a term of 99 years for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, or aggravated robbery. Murders more than one person during the same criminal transaction or during different criminal transactions, but the murders are committed pursuant to the same scheme or course of conduct. Murders an individual under 15 years of age. Murders another person in retaliation for or on account of the service or status of the other person as a judge or justice of the supreme court, the court of criminal appeals, a court of appeals, a district court, a criminal district court, a constitutional county court, a statutory county court, a justice court, or a municipal court.
  5. I had a close call last night. Night run on Helderberg, stepped on a fallen palm. One of the thorns went through the sole of my shoe, between my sock and the sock liner, and then broke off. Didn't pierce the skin, but had to stop to remove it, and couldn't get the thorn out of the sole. Walked out and pulled it out in reverse gear with needle nose pliers. Could have been so much different. Fortunately the run was very lekker.
  6. I'll take a singlespeed and a good attitude. Build it with cheap brakes, sans dropper post and then rebuild and soak everything when I get back. Maybe even ride it into a pool at the finish in an attempt to flush out the salt water with some fresh water.
  7. But by sticking to her routine and ways in a country with an extradition treaty with the USA, made it easy for the USA to catch her and get her back.
  8. And yet both my wife's VW DSG and my Isuzu Smoother auto boxes have had us in trouble. I lost a lot of work while waiting for that Isuzu to be sorted out. So much so that I bought an old truck to have as back up. 30 years old, manual gearbox. Still starts one time. 320k kms, still in it's first clutch . VWSA is still waiting for parts to fix Wifey's car. Going on two weeks already.... The VW DSG box is a hoot to drive, and the Isuzu box is on its original clutches at 460k kms, so yes, there is merit to auto boxes. But they will never be bomb proof. I'll be one of the last to be dragged kicking and screaming into electronic drivetrains. Hopefully shimano Deore will take forever to go there. And I'll always have a singlespeed.
  9. True, but the thing is, with a neutral shoe, on road, you don't really need much tech. I swap between three shoes ranging from mid spec to rather fancy, and my fastest runs have all been with the cheapies. When it comes to trail running in pretty reliant on traction, so I don't mind spending on Salomon for that. But for road running, my next pair will be MRP or whatever I can find on the markdown table.
  10. Plenty of gravel. But if you want to ride trails, then do yourself a favor and go ride the trails in the hills above Bredasdorp. Permits available at the local tourism office, and the bike shop in town.. https://www.bredasdorpadventures.co.za/ These are not groomed flow trails. You'll be working hard, and it will be an adventure.
  11. This thread made me realise that I've never not had a good time at a stage race, and always met lekker people there. Notable highlights were the W2W where we rode hard so that we could be sitting down with beers heckling my team mates colleagues as they came in, and the Eselfontein street braai where 4 campsites came together and put a bunch of braais in the middle of the road and braaied together.
  12. Where do you live? If in the Western Cape, I'd just take it to these people. For how little it cost me back then, having them doing it right wasn't worth the faff of trying stuff that might work. http://carbon-fibre.co.za/contact.html
  13. I had a similar issue many years ago. The makeshift washer solution helped for long, and eventually I had it built up by a carbon repairer. Take the wheel with so that they can ensure the wheel sits straight and that the cassette doesn't rub. I think it cost like 250 Zars, it's a no-brainer.
  14. Cheaper to BUILD a new house. That way you can save money, keep the tools, and buy more tools. Win trifecta!
  15. Jared at BMC does amazing work. I've seen one of the bikes that Carbon Bike Repair in Durbanville did, and It looked very good. I wouldn't mind if any of the two above did my bike's paintjob. 👌
  16. I tallied up my monthly spend on coffee while on the road. Was a bit of an eye opener. So instead of admitting that I have a problem, I doubled down and went full dirtbag by packing all I need to scratch the itch into an old toolbox. The efferfluC container has ground coffee, but when I take the aeropress I take a porlex mini with me. Stove top (or rather my palette) isn't as sensitive to freshly ground coffee as the aeropress. Unexpected bonus is that the 10 minutes I spend brewing is a good break from driving, and the views are superb. Two days ago I brewed coffee next to the river in stellies, today it'll be next to a freshly planted field in the Overberg somewhere.
  17. Best is if you invite a buddy for a ride on Saturday. That way you can immediately fool yourself into believing that it was a great investment.
  18. It's not about durability, it's built to a price point. They are built with the cheapest tubing, cheapest components, and with as low a labour cost as possible.
  19. Rocks. Rough, ungroomed and unbermed trails. The type of trails that force you to pick a line and commit to it. The type of trail that celebrates skill and doesn't hide mediocrity.
  20. Lekker Lexx! Be careful, but enjoy the process. All the best!
  21. Ja i don't get that either. Demand pricing at work. What also gets me is the races where you pay R350+ for a boring lap around vineyards. Like Jewbacca, I however don't mind paying a couple of hundred for the races in inhospitable places where there is a bit more of a safety net in place ito search and rescue for if a pawpaw hits the fan. And if it's a classic like UTCT I'll do it once to experience the gees. But Otter's price? No Bueno.
  22. I don't get it either.
  23. I've been using one of these to hang 4 bikes for many years. https://www.holdfast.co.za/product/vertical-wall-hangers
  24. Longer travel isn't a panacea for bad setup or bad riding habits. Just servicing a shock that has about 50 hrs of riding on it will make it feel a lot better.
  25. Ja but I'd rather use that money for something with upside. Like drinking 4 cups of coffee.
