  1. You wil definitely get a phoenix in that price range. The previous year models go for new at around that price, you just need to shop around. Check out these links. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/5444-silverback-phoenix-2011/ https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&module=core&do=view_item&item_id=5199
  2. That I understand. Silverback is like the underdog, best feeling when you zip past guys on their stumpy's or other high end bikes. I think in that price range aesthetics should be your last priority, with function and bang for buck as the strongest selling points. If you like the sport( probably get addicted to), I guarantee you would upgrade within a year. Then weight and aesthetics becomes somewhat of a higher priority. That's my opinion. What is important is that you are happy with what you ride, and that you made the best possible choice with regards to your options and budget. Too many people get stuck in what's the lightest and what brand bike and so forth. Another important point is to actually try out as many of the bikes in the price range to see what feels right, the stickers on the side of the frame won't help with that. Reading reviews on mtbr and bikeradar is also good starting points. Rather enjoy riding for what it's worth, not what brand you ride. PS. I'm a big Scott fan and own a Spark which I love to pieces.
  3. Why don't you like silverback? Scott is probably the lightest frame.
  4. Heavy is always a good idea when starting out. So what if it weighs like 15kg's, that bike will need to be able to take a big bashing for starters. And there will be so much more weight to save when a lighter bike is bought.
  5. Silverback Phoenix.
  6. Ek soek SO EEN!
  7. Weak wheelsets makes sense coming from a backround with no DH experience/ knowledge.
  8. Those CB's wheelset looks awesome on that bike
  9. My vote goes for the Spectra. Weight is 11.5kg if I'm not mistaken.

  13. Bought the Unit from Bikeinn , total cost was just over R1800. Delivery & Import duties is around 20%
  14. Now that I think of it, probably had more to do with the condition my rotor was in, swopping it for a new 160mm, with regards to the lockup theory. With the 185 at the back I had that typical high frequency vibration noise after some braking, which i presumed was caused by the heat build up. Did not give this one allot of thought If I were to rephrase : I won't use a 185mm rotor for the back after my experience...
  15. Smaller rotors causes your wheel to lockout faster with bigger rotors giving a more evenly braking affect. I had 185 cleen sweep G2's back and front on my Spark 50, switched back to 160 at the back, best downgrade I have ever done with regards to XC. 185mm at the back heats up quite quick and bends easier with more problems than solutions and is mostly used on trail bikes. I'm running Juicy 3.5's with heavy duty alligator hoses.
  16. Crossmark LUST's are quite bullet proof. Know a friend that has done at least 2000km on a set including allot of road cycling.
  17. Any more pics available?
  18. What about a Crossmark ,Monorail combo.
  19. As far as I know, no. : )
  20. The way I understand this, is you basically take out insurance from Rudy Project ( Paying a fixed price once off ) , and when you lenses are scratced you post both to them(ie. you don't keep them) and they will send back new ones.
  21. Talk to Clinton( Username on the Hub) , he will hook you up with some nice lights for a very good price. He also rides with us, so he can charge your light before the ride, set it up with you in the parking lot, and off we go .
