  2. here we go again, ill get the popcorn!!
  3. eish thats an old bike, very nice but old, as Tankman says your looking at about 10k for all the upgrades including the bike, for me a 9 year old bike for 10k is steep, personally i would look towards this https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&do=view_item&item_id=34037 for half the price, add a service of the shocks and full mtb service if you like and thats about 7k( depending and where you take it of coarse) means 3k for beer etc. thats just my 20000000000000000000000000000000 zim dollars worth
  4. hi guys i was wondering if it is possible( ok wait i know it is) or rather advisable not to use a rear shock that is bigger than the space between the bolts? in other words can i not use a 200mm shock on a 190mm shock frame? surely if the shock is fitted in a compressed state with no air in it and the air is added once the bolts are fitted it will only extend a s far as the frame will allow? yes it may require some fine tuning with regards to the air pressure as it will now be running a lot higher due to the compression but is that not the same as say a fat person getting on the bike and not adjusting the pressure to suite?
  5. Am sure someone can cut you one but rather get a piece of Perspex cut to fit that way no more broken glass.
  6. Was on both actually, kyknet was slightly longer though.
  7. Everyone see the e-news car and camera following us for the first part from Braamies? The story was on e-news tonight at 7!!
  8. Nice post!!! Op clearly has thought about this, thought I was a half decent novice but from that list I am not to sure any more. What about adding performing a wheelie to the list somewhere, I mean a 10m peddled one. First on an uphill then flat then downhill?
  9. What site did you find that on? Are there more brakes on the site besides what you posted?
  10. Nice!! Congrats if you enjoy them half as much as I do your in for a hell of a ride!!!!
  11. ok so i know i am not a professional mechanic but i use 2 holdfast straps that i run through the frame, 1 at the seat post join and 1 either behind the fork or in the weld where the top tube meets the downtube, and fling over 2 roof beams about 4 foot apart, means bike is in the air, sturdy as hell and i cant knock it over if i happen to wander 2 close etc. i know its not an answer to your question but as a cheap as chips solution to a problem you cant( in my opinion) get better. oh the straps are the std 25mm cam straps in case you are wondering, you may even have and not need to buy, worst case if you do need to they are only 50 odd bucks. can be used from any number of objects, lapa timber poles, roof struts, trees, garage door rails etc etc.
  12. Not much to be really honest, especcially if you are not using the xtr deraileur as well. The only real difference is that the xtr is lighter, that being said it is( theoretically) weaker and will wear faster.
  13. The adapter is the black spacer that positions the caliper for the correct space from the frame basically wha the caliper connects to, no you can't use the old ones as the disc will be bigger than the space allowed by the adapter, the rotor will hit the edge of the caliper and it wont fit. There is no need to go 203 but it does look the business and feels a lot more "there". Kinda like going to abs brakes on a car that didn't have.
  14. Ok specifically as follows: Deor xt bl-m785 brake lever and calipers Sm-rt81 rotors,203mm front and 180 back. Just remember you will need new shimano spacers to move from the 160/180mm the bike comes with.
  15. The brakes no doubt, they are unbelievable, stop like nothing I have ever experienced. On that note what year slx are you running? The 2012 groupset is( so i have seen said in a few reviews) is basically the same as the xt with a few extra grams.
  16. sorry just saw the question now, had them in the toolbox when i took the photo, its not a "new fork" as such bought it from a mate so took the whole fork apart to do a full service and rebuild before fitting to the bike. changed seals, oil, etc so basically running like new again.

  22. Fark this is going to be an expensive rude awakening for some including myself. Me 3 bikes total spent =R34500. Km ridden about 4000 odd = R 8.63 per km That being said enjoyment had =priceless
