  1. I said it was hard, and am sorry that it is beyond you.
  2. This is where the thinking goes screwy and, much as i hate to admit it, I agree with Drongo. People tend to go from "farm murderers are black" to "blacks are farm murderers" and its very, very wrong & stupid. Hard though it is, we have to see people as individuals and the vast majority of individuals from all races are decent folk just trying to get by. I think there are better ways to spend your time than challenging people over their property "on a hunch". Even if you are right sometimes, it shows a certain sadness in your mindset. & when you are wrong you cause a lot of upset.
  3. Immortalised by Deep Purple: Frank Zappa and the Mothers Were at the best place around But some stupid with a flare gun Burned the place to the ground Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky, smoke on the water"
  4. I'm not saying it's right, i'm saying its consistent and not unusual. The outcome of a process as opposed to justice. You'd have to look at the range of sentences for other Culpable Homicide cases to gauge the severity of this one.
  5. I think the sentence is consistent for this sort of thing. Culpable homicide means that the State didnt try to prove he intentionally swerved into the cyclists meaning to cause harm - which is what we are all guessing he did. That would be murder. They've gone with an accident due to recklessness/negligence which is way down on the scale of crimes. If anything, the magistrate has made an effort not to be soft - given the limits they had to work in.
  6. Finally found a good use for lawyers, but at R1,000 per hour maybe i'll do my own.
  7. Were they hiking or meditating?..........
  8. Stupid, arrogant post; no wonder it drew so much flak. And best not to debate with a fool as, after a while, anyone watching may not be able to tell the dfference......8 pages later.
  9. He's an Italian rider isnt he? Pronounced Scora-leenee. Dont worry I'm sure he'll pick up.
  10. Do a search, this comes up regularly and last time Eldron or Edman posted some great stuff about how virtually no-one fits the 220 - age thing; was 2 wks or so ago.
  11. Hmmm rollerblading chimps are always good. Thought about this when i was shaving this morning - Last Sept i was on the Change a Life ride in Malawi, 70 of us and the last day was 160kms. It was uphill for the last 30 of that and the last 7kms we went up 700mtrs to the top of Zomba plateau. All middle aged plodders plus Malcolm Lange, Owen Hanie, Gerald de Koch, and a former para-olympian & tv cameras on motorbike and gyropcopter. That climb was worth about 7mins TV of the 50min programme; a programme i've only watched once and that only becuz i was in it. Watchin cyclin is generally very boring & though the mountain was fairly tough to ride it was no big thing really and so 1,000mtrs in 10kms likewise. Get some rollerblades
  12. You're right, it doesnt really capture the imagination to be honest. 10/11 riders take cpl hrs to ride up big hill? Good personal achievement but hard to package and sell.
  13. Aka:- Swindles on Spindles.
  14. Sorry - stupid post by me
  15. Or maybe Hubbers are not immune to "bigging-up" their steeds or insurance claims
  16. Really cool re: reasons for writing. This bit of advice looks crazy "take cash with you in case you get robbed"; but makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
  17. Interesting 1st post that reads like a short story, though I dont doubt that it happened. I wonder who/what/why it was written for first. Nice to see some writing talent on the Hub.
  18. Just been to see The Adjustment......so you dont have to.
  19. You're right. If I die on the bike, I know what my last words will be, having rehearsed the situation a couple of times. Nothing uplifting, wise nor inspirational, unfortunately
  20. 2.5 not every other ride but not seldom either 1.5 part-scared which makes me part-angry..... ok, **** scared and homicidal.
  21. I dont want a photo of me with an orange sticker on my head, so havent bought one. I think if its a one-off, R50 is fine. I think it'd be pretty vain to be getting photos with stickers on your head for more than 1 a year. ActionPhoto are still in business so maybe they know what they are doing. Bulk processing for petty vanities is good enough. The only photos I've got of me were done by Jacques Marais - brilliant guy as well as photographer. Couldnt have been much of a thrill for him, but maybe there was a challenge in making me look (halfway) good. Actually he's a fantastic photographer, check out his site http://jacquesmarais.co.za/
  22. 14 pages - have you guys sorted any "No Entry" signs @ strategic points yet?
  23. Ahhhh nostalgia, it ain't what it used to be.
  24. +1 & v funny
  25. Hi Fester - I can relieve you of your burden if this is still available for Fri/Sat nights. Please pm
