eish ... just had a look at Heinrich's log ... looks like he has been walking for 2 hours ... hope he is up and running soon again? .

    The Munga 2020

I was rooting for Heinrich Visser, ... earlier this afternoon he was still on the heals of the front-runners, but something must have gone wrong, .... see he is 50km back now, wonder if he also had a mechanical?
  3. @DJR .... any update on possible manufacturer of this frame .... the seatpost clamp intrigues me no end

  5. sadly neither ... it's just a dream for now ..... but I am currently in the process of building my own version of it .. could say the Road Logic was my inspiration
  6. Ritchey Road Logic disc
  7. Thx .... Will send it back up to Citizen in Gauteng. It’s still the only watch I use for scuba. One day when I venture deeper than 20m I’ll upgrade to something more tech
  8. I love the look of aero wheels on vintage steel framed bikes
  9. The battery on my Citizen Aqualand Diver Depth Meter Promaster just went again. Used to hand it in myself at Citizen in Jhb, but I fly/visit Gauteng less frequently these days. Anyone know where in the Southern peninsula I can have it serviced with a pressure test? thx
  10. I'm really keen to do this tour .... as a 50+ veteran (will need to buy a Cycling SA member/license again) Has anyone pulled the trigger on this yet, can we(public) enter as novice riders as we did in TOGH for the 5 stage race? Or is the 5 day stage race only for elites/provincial/prof clubs ... Any more info on the participation rules, the website is very vague?
  11. That video brings back memories … I was fortunate to have been in the parachute battalion, and although I am in 2 minds about having those years over again, those were definitely some of the most amazing experiences I had …. especially the camaraderie that is formed.... the bonds formed in shared agony. As a teenager you don’t always realize at the time, but some suffering/torment goes a long way to preparing you for the future. I don’t especially like guns, still don’t own one … it wasn’t about that …. It was about the experience.
  12. Not that I would ever be able to afford a Speedmax .... but I had a look at the gear ratios. A 50 x 10 (SRAM groupset) is thus equivalent to a 55 x 11?
  13. for sure ..... I did the 2015 Tour de Boland ..... I would grab an opportunity to do something similar again with both hands. It takes a bit more effort to plan when it's not a 'cloverleaf' stage race, but the event itself, and doing the stages as an eternal "wannabee" was out of this world ....
  14. Think you are right .... just a copy and paste error .... from an old rule-book UCI allowed disc brakes since 2018, and CSA have allowed it too ... 3.4.6 Disc brakes are allowed in road race and time trial training and competition. (Refer UCI Rule 1.3.025) ref: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/53f5fb7ce4b0cab4a7fe8561/t/5ca233d3419202131e8ec6ac/1554133973849/20190401_CSA+-+Rules+of+Cycling+PART+3+-+19.02.25+%28Amended%29.pdf
  15. Interesting: The rules states no disc brakes (for licensed categories - english version) 26. Disk brakes not allowed in licensed categories. 26) Skyfbrieke sal nie toegelaat word nie https://rapporttoer.co.za/reels-en-regulasies/http://rapporttour.co.za/race-specific-regulations/
  16. will do Was hoping it was just because I’m not in the habit of looking down while running, but you really have no choice when running on a trail. The shadows and light causing it? Thought it might get better with time?
  17. I need some advice. I have mostly done road running ie. tar and gravel roads, but lately I have started moving more into trail running. I ultimately want to start doing proper trail running routes and maybe races. But if the trail bits go on for too long before opening into a road again - I get ‘vertigo’ or ‘blotchy’ sight? What is causing it?
  18. If you aren't used to speed-work, take care in the beginning .. I had a training program last year which included speed-work, and was mostly injury free up to then. Ran a marathon 2 weeks prior, thus could have been fatigue too, but the speed-work resulted in a injury. Need to say that I'm other side of 50, thus my body doesn't like rapid change either .... It was a posterior tibial tendon injury after my first speed-work session. Needed physio and rest for a few weeks to heal.....
  19. I think the job losses the past year has just exacerbated the current situation. Whether you can only get R500 or R50 for a bicycle/part makes no difference …. SA, and Cape town has struggled with crime for decades, it is not going to go away soon. I’m sure drugs (being under the influence) was involved in Brandon’s attack, as it seemed pretty brazen to attempt a hijacking with so many witnesses? As for how we can continue to enjoy our daily cycle, or what the authorities can do to control the crime stats is the million-dollar question? Cape town is on parr with the world’s worst cities. And it has slowly but surely spilt over from the town-ships where it was mostly limited to before ………. into the streets now … ref: https://businesstech.co.za/news/lifestyle/407087/cape-town-now-ranks-as-the-8th-most-violent-city-in-the-world/# Hope you heal up soon Brandon
  20. Glad I don’t have space to play with these anymore …. Last classic I owned was a 1958 LHD Karmann Ghia. Think many can agree, having a bicycle hobby is small-change in comparison to trying to keep these classic cars on the road …..
  21. yes, maybe more 70's going by the gap/space between the back-wheel and the seat-tube?
  22. The Partisan - Leonard Cohen
  23. Eish, ja, ‘n tad breeze … yes, sorry, you are right, it’s 2020, not 2019 I had hoped that 2019 would have been my best time yet, had an awesome seeding, but lost the group behind a crash up Smitswinkel and then broke my legs trying to catch up. Unfortunately, I also elected to do a 2nd loop that year (2019), …. It was an extremely long day on the road …
  24. How many people take part in the Argus / CTCT each year? 2019 2020= 22642 finished From this, how many achieve a sub 3 hour race ? (2019 2020) sub 3 = 1090 Total distance ? 109km From elsewhere: +- 1200m elevation gain (edit: corrected date)
  25. Maybe the break from racing gave them some time to improve technique too. With constant racing it’s difficult to spend time to hone a new skill, if you need to maintain fitness? When I transitioned to zero drop it took quite a while before I could up my km’s again …. In the world of marginal gains, and top athletes changing techniques, the break from racing could possibly have given them this rare opportunity?
