  3. look, Doreen, my manageress of home affairs, will through a riot if i arrive home from number collection witout a goodie bag to top up her supplies of useless sun caps, bubblebath, massage oils and soaps, plus the occasional treat of chocalate, energy bar (gets the ironing done in half the time yeh) etc, so no goodie bag and i have issues

  6. (The guy's just started, rides uncleated and mostly along the Spruit, if that helps) so get him a pair of shimano xt pedals
  7. rather than spending a lot of money trail and error, 1 go to a good bike shop for a proper set up (cyclelab), then you know the basics are right 2. save up and buy a decent saddle. here you basically get what you pay for. more NB than MTB or raod saddle is to get something decent that works for you, you need to try a few out. specialised have a number of good saddles and if you go to a concept store they have ones you can take and try out. they cme in diffirents sizes to match the size of your butt :)personally after trying many others the avatar works best for me 3. get the best cycling shorts you can afford. if all else fails, ride with two pants. but over time your butt will get used to the abuse. do not wear underpants and use some butt cream (milo cream or if you want to burn cash assos) 4. get decent gel gloves and make sure they fit properly good luck and hope you have fun
  8. Seems there is a new bike shop opening up in Hurlingham Manor, that little complex cnr republic and woodlands where the local grill is? there are no signs or anything yet to say who it is. anybody know anything?
  9. agree with mtbmom o giordiana pants, not woman specific but great( whenever i got woman specific shorts or saddles i was disappointed, dont work for me
  10. well, there is no group riding as such. i live closeby and just noticed many people go jogging and walking their dogs in the grounds so i went there a few times with my bike (MTB because there are some offroad patches) and had quite a bit of fun. never measured the distance going around all the way but done a few very nice early morning rides so will see how it works out but more practical travelling wise than kayalami
  11. some bike shops are better than others but to be honest, buying from very cheap to very expensive bikes from various shops , i can not recall buying one single bike and took it home without some snag or the other that i either had to go back for or try and sort out myself. In the bigger scheme of things if the cable being trapped is the only issue you have things are not going too bad. When youre new to the game its very frustrating but as you become self sufficient at least to spot and sort the basics it becomes less of an issue. happy riding
  12. managed to get out there on monday, also on MTB, thought was quite cool to work a bit harder. only thing for me is kayalami from johannesburg is a loss unless you can get out the office by 15h30. i am going to give St Stithians a go today i am sure circling the school grounds is more or less the same distance than kayalami with a bit more climbing
  13. you are right if anything they are more expensive. what i do find is availability and range of products, especially clothing and in particular for cold weather, so look for stuff you dont find here rather than bargains
  14. Hi guys I now need to replace my DA casette so I have the 7800 and those casettes were discontinued one now has to use the 7900, only thing they say 11-27 and 11-28 wont work on 7800, but i saw on some overseas forums some people did it and it worked. So before I fork out cash is there any hubbers who tried this, and what was the outcome? Thanks

  22. if you can afford to get a dual suspension it would be good. tranche is a good choice but best is for her to test ride and see what she is comfortable on. merida is also good value for money
