  1. Why is there a knife lying in the road? They should have used it on the drivers nuts.
  2. That same passport will soon make it's mysterious way into his murderous hands and he will be gone. Watch this space.
  3. Assos for my Ass. Nothing compares. Worth every cent.
  4. I'd be interested to know details of a few of them. Especially those who got a puncture and claimed for a defective tube, or got charged a 5% handling fee and had it refunded. Any examples come to mind?
  5. If the shop policy is 5% on returns, which the owner waives upon complaint, then I don't see the problem. To me, it sounds like a case of hypersensitivity on the part of the customer. Then, my other hub favourite ~ the CPA. Every second post refers to this or that being covered by the CPA, as if it is a magic bullet, which it isn't. Claiming against a supplier based on some or other clause in the CPA will be a long, frustrating and probably very expensive procedure when time and effort are taken into account. I have not heard of a single person who has successfully claimed something from a supplier using the CPA.
  6. I beg to differ.
  7. Most of our road races are suitable for beginners, exceptions being mainly the stage races (Kremetart, Jock, Panorama etc). If you are worried about the profile or difficulty of some of them, enter the short distances to see how it goes. Don't enter too many, you are just going to tire yourself out, and it can become boring to do too many. Do the bigger early season races (Berge & Dale, Dischem, Emporers etc), then decide how you want to handle the rest of the year
  8. This is the important one, and it will be used in many future court cases when motorists flatten cyclists.
  9. I do nearly all my training and racing with my daughter, on Sunday we did 2.52 at the 94.7 ~ in fact she beat me by 6 seconds. She's 18, I'm 51. We've been riding together for the last three years. If she keeps this up, I'm going to need to find a slower riding partner, or new legs.
  10. Heating and cooling will probably loosen it. The pedal and the crankarm are different metals, so they expand and contract at a different rate when heated and cooled, loosening the grip between them. Put the whole thing in hot water for an hour, then freeze it, then warm it to room temp again. If that doesn't loosen it, take it to an engineering shop
  11. Unfortunately, in cycling this is not true for most people, but obviously there are a few exceptions. Age certainly affects recovery time, so the young guys have a massive training advantage ie. they can train harder and more often than an older person. Unless you are a Mclean or a Beneke, you will feel the effect of age when the young bucks put the hammer down.
  12. I think it depends on your condition before the lay off. I usually ride about 1000km per month, then suffered a serious back injury and was pretty much off the bike for 4 months, and only did about 500k's of very easy riding in the entire 4 month period. After recovery, I built up my training over a 3 month period, and now back to 1000k's per month and racing again. It's different for everybody, and definitely age dependent imo. I'm not a youngster any more, so it will probably be quicker for a young person.
  13. Be that as it may, he still comes across as a Big D ~ that's ****, in case you don't know. I'm a "toppie" too, and I'd like to think that the few extra years we have had has taught us not to make such irresponsible statements.
  14. Dunno about shocking and disgusting, it was a normal video of a traffic accident in which people happened to be killed. The quality wasn't that great, and it certainly wasn't possible to identify those killed.
  15. Time In The Saddle
  16. You say you are 6'1 and fat. Good. No sensitivity issues if someone admits that they are fat. Get any second hand bike that fits you and your budget. Put on some strong wheels, train hard and shed the lard. Once your weight is under control, get a better set of wheels and you are sorted.
  17. I've been with Spectramed for years, no issues. Payments are prompt, excesses are fairly small, they have covered all the family needs as specified in their schedule. We haven't had massive claims, biggest just under 60k (yes, bike accident), but they covered it all. I'm told they are merging with Liberty, not sure how that will turn out, but hoping for the best.
  18. I'll take my sub 3 no matter how it's earned, thank you very much. While it's true to say that it would not be as easily achievable for a solo rider, as opposed to a group rider, you still have to turn the pedals to keep up with the group. My group had me deep in the red on several occasions, not sure I would have pushed that hard riding solo.
  19. Fixed it. They will not stop until they suck the last drop of blood out of us.
  20. +1 I hate that climb with a passion. It's short and looks like nothing, but it makes me suffer every year.
  21. This post takes the cake, it really does. You are complaining about a service provider charging you a realistic price for an item that you desperately needed. Do you have any idea of the hassle you would have gone through waiting to be swept, if that stall wasn't there? Get real, guy.
  22. This thread is pathetic, that's what it is. Its time for a moderator (a real one, not Claude), to hit the delete key.
  23. The mind boggles at this statement. It is made more out of bravado, than common sense. Descending at 60km/h, and hitting another cyclist head on, is not likely to be "sore as hell", as you put it. It is highly likely to result in a fatality.
  24. Crap
  25. You want to see complaining? Watch this space on Monday morning, after Racetec screw up the timing (again). What was it last year? 2 minutes extra? I forget.
